They literally say on the Bazzite page that Nvidia has problems with it. Maybe you're using a poorfaggot 1440p monitor and that's fine, but I'm rocking a 4K LG OLED hooked up to my PC, and that's specifically where they specify there's issues.

It's not the "monitor" (I'm using a TV hooked up to my HTPC anyway).
The issue is the fact that the Bazzite page lists 4K not displaying properly on gamescope with Nvidia, also HDR not working.
Trust me, I'd love to switch. I hate this shitty OS with every fiber of my being. I play on my Steam Deck most of the time purely to avoid it. But HDR+4K are dealbreakers for me on a 4K LG OLED.

Except the good ones like Chris Titus' outright tell you what will break your system or not and let you just click "Essential" to get rid of the stuff that's bad but won't break the system, same with O&OShutUp10. If you aren't doing stupid stuff like removing the Game Bar, Edge, or Microsoft Store you won't have any issues whatsoever because it's not load bearing like those three are.

You have to intentionally be trying to break your system when it comes to his tool, and his is arguably the best one available.

I'll never understand linux users complaining about windows being difficult to use or even tweak. Most of it is scripts with buttons that only enable the "recommended" stuff if you're too much of a retard. It's a weird double standard where if you spend 5 hours trying to figure out how to make your brand new chinese gamepad that mogs everything else behave normally through its wireless dongle on linux is a-ok because "i-it's a learning experience!", but when you spend less than an hour doing practically everything you would need to have a windows setup going without a hassle it's "please brain block out all of that information and act like it's extremely difficult and annoying to click on a drop down menu"

It's just that some people really ignore how fucking bad 10 was. They'll never remember the pain that it was handling sound drivers and latency, having it restart without your permission by default, having more difficulties overall trying to do simple things like removing cortana or delaying updates, it was a fucking mess. How half the settings were in old classic windows control panel sections but those got replaced by shit that was half baked. How every single update they would break any custom visual styles, so people stopped trying with those. And how after a while it would become impossible to update to a newer version if you didn't update at the right time. And people calling me left and right because "pls help I just turned on the computer and the only thing I can see is a cursor". 10 was a fucking nightmare. I don't think that the ability to more easily install the OS with a local account was worth all the pain and misery. That OS started a cancer that is often only attributed to 11 for whatever reason.

On my end:
-360hz monitor that requires DSC to be enabled with nvidia: Adaptive sync must be disabled or I'm prone to blanking out issues, hasn't been fixed by their latest update which is supposed to fix some VRR problems but this issue has been confirmed by some nvidia forum moderator and I'm hoping they listen to that poor motherfucker.
-HDR (OLED) on nvidia: On KDE plasma HDR works, though the calibration tool is a bit weird but who gives a fuck, it does the job. However outside of that, gamescope (the alternative that worked) crashes often, hyprland doesn't even know what the fuck to do with it, and GNOME is nonsensical (HDR works on games just as fine as on Plasma, but on desktop it will produce some nasty banding which means there's some color depth fuckery even when the output is 10bpc).
Sometimes I wish that nvidia followed through several years ago and tried to work on getting HDR to work on X11.

Different people have different needs and wants. This is a complicated thing for you because there's many more examples of hardware not working well or limited on linux than on windows.
All that gamepad does is kb input + xinput. This is somehow very non-standard and alien for linux. It shits itself and demands an explanation, whereas windows understands "ok so this is a keyboard and an old xbox controller" and doesn't fuck with it. Upon connecting it, without downloading any esoteric drivers, btw.
Which is funny because when a mechanical keyboard or mouse is connected, linux can't decide and adds them as both types of devices. I love going into my mouse settings on KDE and finding my keyboard showing up on the list before the mouse. Sure I'll disable mouse acceleration on my Akko piece of shit.
Nobody even mentioned adobe software or any multiplayer games anyways. But it's fine, live with so much freedom you have to adapt to flaccid standards everytime you buy any sort of hardware whatsoever.

Anonymous No.725272385 [Report]

It shouldn't happen when using Always given it's not switching out modes.
What I find weird is that you wouldn't have it randomly blanking out at times. On desktop plasma VRR is a bit erratic. Depending on what content is being played on screen it either goes down to 48hz and makes the cursor behave a little bit unsmooth (sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't) and with dark decorations like what you're showing, there's some noticeable VRR flickering. I'm using an MSI 271QPX QD-OLED monitor myself.
I played a bit with custom EDID editing and VRR ranges but found nothing that would really solve this issue. EDID extraction on this monitor is nonsense and it requires switching to DP 1.4 (which with DSC, goes down from 360hz to either unusable color fringing nightmare 240hz or 120hz due to its low bandwidth). I'm guessing your monitor doesn't really have much trouble with 240hz max and doesn't trigger the blanking out unless on auto mode.

Nah you're looking at it all wrong mate. Once upon a time people actually updated their OS's, they knew how to install software, do basic computer shit. So when a knew OS came out, you actually had to convince customers to buy it and upgrade.

Now people just buy pre-built, disposable laptops for the most part that come with Windows pre-installed. They will "upgrade" to W11 when they buy a new laptop.

Microsoft will force the transition with hardware the same as they did with W10.

it's impossible to break their de facto monopoly without regulation
>vendor lock-in (software support. tons of proprietary APIs. wine is trying to get shit running, but it's a herculean effort)
>back-alley deals with OEMs (they get licenses for pennies on the dollar as long as they refuse to ship other operating systems, plus they make a killing by loading computers with bloatware)
>uncooperative OEMs and manufacturers (no datasheets, whitepapers, or documentation to write your own drivers. manfacturers HATE people writing and maintaining drivers btw)
>proprietary blobs (bits of machine code that contain crucial instructions to drive hardware). makes it impossible to write proper drivers, add custom functionality, etc.
>driver signature enforcement. GPUs and other pieces of hardware expect cryptographically signed firmware and drivers, so even if you manage to write your own drivers, they won't be loaded
>DRM. (((remote attestation))) (((TPMs))) and (((secure boot))) threaten your ownership over your data and devices. this shit happened to android, where you need to pass (((play integrity))) hardware attestation checks or a ton of apps will refuse to launch. this killed custom ROMs and OSs dead in the water

The main difference is, it's a rolling distro.
You get access to all the bleeding edge software because it's arch based.
Second biggest difference is package manager and AUR.
Basically you have easy access to a lot of software without the need of compiling it manually.
I don't GUI package installer because I still prefer CLI.
Default shell is fish instead of bash but you can easily change that.
You still have access to all the major DE flavours, out of the gate.
Installation is dead brain easy for both so if you have spare drive you should try it.
