Spiders are friends to mankind, they eat bugs and mostly mind their own business in the corner of the room.

Obviously giant spiders are a different story, but I don’t live in a hellish tropical climate so I don’t have to worry about that.

these are just some of the observed instances of arthropod individuality. there are also ants observed ranging the gradient of lazy to productive and differences in individuals of the same species when it comes to adventurousness vs caution, fear vs fight, and more. it has been observed in so many cases that it is bringing into question the requirements for an emotional response since it seems to be a product of being alive rather than having a complex brain. some arthropods have even passed the mirror test.

interestingly, spiders seem to go through the same stages of grief as humans. if an egg sack is removed from a house spider's nest it will return to the place the egg sack was regularly, attack rather than subdue food, move to that spot and stay there, build or find a surrogate to replace the egg sack, and will either stop moving and eating all together or gradually begin again. the saddest I've ever seen a spider was one orbweaver that lost an egg sack to a bird and then stayed in the corner of its nest rather than the center, stopped rebuilding its web every day, and when it finally decayed completely just sat on the ground under where its web used to be. it wasn't physically sounded, if disturbed it could still flee but it didn't go as far as orb weavers usually do when afraid - no threat posture or anything and if picked up it didn't attempt to rapel down on a safety line like most spiders will. it just sat there and curled up.

redditor freaks who pretend "lesser animals" are meaningless and have meaningless lives are almost always psychopaths who want total control over you as a person. i don't respect them as equals. the world is full of amazing creatures and forms of life to which we should be friends and stewards. i love steak, but not cruelty to cows.
