I'm replaying 2 right now and I'm just going to watch a few cutscenes and then skip over to Ar Nosurge instead (after watching even more cutscenes from Ciel)

While 3 has great music, I remember being incredibly bored with not just the awful combat, but the bad story, and not really liking any of the characters.

Youtube showed me a Japanese guy playing AT1 and he moved on to AT2. He then had one final stream to replay a bunch of music with lyric videos. Someone convinced him to play the short teaser video from AT3 and he was just like "Yeah" played it and moved on.

Now it's also a much bigger pain in the ass to play AT3 than 1 or 2 so that might have something to do with it too

AT3 starting with some random goober saving a mysterious girl didn't fill me with hope. Compare that to AT1 where Lyner, Shureilia, and Ayatane are running down halls and fighting viruses or Reika getting kidnapped. Neither did Saki acting like she has actual brain damage. I know she was made less than 10 years prior to the game starting but I doubt Misha or Mir behaved as she does at her age.

Then the first song of the game was EXEC_EP=NOVA/. and I don't care that the people in the game were also cringing at it, it's still shit and I hate that it took a song slot in the game.

I don't understand the physics system in the game very well but this sort of transmutation of living things seemed weird and out of place. It would have been more in line with AT for her to crush them to death under a giant cake. Although I guess one of the evil plans in this game was to mutate everyone so maybe I'm wrong.

XaaaCi is a little bit like that for me but I didn't realize that it was from a game back then. When I stumbled upon the song on youtube I just thought that it was a cool art project or even weird cult thing, saved it and completely forgot about it for years.
I picked up Ar Nosurge at a whim years later because it looked cool and then realizing a few hours into it that the style of music sounds really familiar, prompting me to find that video again and then starting from the beginning with AT1.

Playable with heavy saving. I actually did manage to get through the whole game but oh boy the frequent random crashing was pretty bad.

Thankfully the crashing isn't entirely random, only within scene transitions like crafting or map change, so you could work around that while combat and exploration was mostly stable.

The AT series is known for three things, the music, the worldbuilding, and the dating sim elements. /v/ focuses alot on the latter. But the more serious plot from the second game onwards is actually quite interesting, it's usually our party of protagonists caught in a conflict between two factions with differing opinions on how to save the setting, said setting taking place in giant towers or moon sized spaceships.

And the hymnos music presented us probably one of the most unique and best that gaming has to offer, in fact inspiring alot of later soundtracks like in Nier Automata.

Man. I really like the Tower of Harvestasha. It's my favorite area. Ar Tonelico is fine, it's a striking design but some of it is a bit weird. I love that it extends into space. Metafalss is great (the fact we never see what Metafalica actually looks like is a fucking crime). The third tower is just my favorite because it's basically an in-atmosphere satellite but it's a far more interesting shape than the ones in Ciel Nosurge.

I know the "losing clothes part" is there for fanservice but I always enjoyed the actual show of progression of your nuke getting stronger plus the way the song also got stronger so it made timing your attacks better too. If they just made that part of controlling a character less stale, it'd have a real fun system on their hands. I think the protect the tower part is also pretty inspired and could have added more depth like positioning if it wasn't just press a button to kick the boss away.

Started part 3 and I'm at the part where you have the option to tell Tastiella to fuck off and force a fight with mir early.
I have effectively endless money and S ranked all items.
I stacked crystals to boost my parties agility to the point I get like 5 attacks per one of the enemy and I basically can fight forever but mir still regenerates faster than I can deal damage and my Reyvateil (Misha) is still normal speed so isn't very useful even with red magic boosters.
Not sure if I should try a different strategy or continue further into the story, but don't want to miss the chance to get the ending.
