When they started talking in Infinite I wanted to shut off the game
I loved that they always spoke their own language/an alien language, unlike the most of the rest of the mainline covenant species. It made them unique. Drones and Hunters not talking made sense because Drones are bugs and Hunters are a bunch of worms. Jackals not talking gave them more character, being a middle ground between grunts being funny little guys begging for mercy, and brutes/elites being deep voiced monsters that taunt you and laugh when you die (and the Prophets being scheming religious military leaders)
I always attributed it to my own headcanon that they either couldn’t speak it with their vocal chords or they felt above human language (Elites spoke human to taunt humanity like the Brutes, Jackals were just more petty in my mind)
