It has to be better than "game console + DVD player" in the 2000's market, to outsell the ps2. Families would buy it just to watch movies on it. Despite the gaming market being larger than ever, it feels like the console market keeps shrinking, so there'd have to a huge change for a console to outsell it.

It will never be outsold. Not because the ps2 was so amazing (even though it was amazing).

It will never be outsold because console gaming is dying. Hardcore crowd is moving to pc, casuals are moving to mobile. Xbox just died, sony games are old as hell, and even nintendo is losing its grip on the young generation and they seem to have fumbled with the switch 2.

A lot of people understandably dont want to buy dedicated gaming devices when mainstream output is so slow and often disappointing. Many people prefer more immediate forms of gratification these days, thanks to cell phone / internet dependence and everyone being just generally passive and gay now -- which is depressing.
