I really liked the setup for the postgame dungeon with Eureka. The protagonist is basically just an apathetic autistic dungeon crawler enthusiast (player stand in) and Eureka is a mentally ill retard, but after the shit the two of you have been through, you wordlessly understand what needs to be done and so you go to see the story through to an end. I also looked at Etrian Odyssey IV, which I'm playing as well, but Refrain sucked me in the way EOIV didn't (although to its credit, EO seems a much better game).

the only one refrain also has is a lack of character development for the puppets. there's no lag (in fact you can run it at 2x speed if you want to, if you play on switch emulator). the npc's all make sense in-game, and in fact characters point out how they are puppets all the time. plus, there's quite a few characters with detailed stories and interactions aside from the puppets. there's no time-gating. the ui is fine: i suppose this one is a matter of taste, but there's nothing like having to tab through ten pages of $2.99 gacha purchases to spend guild coins.

I don't "love" refrain either btw. I do love crawling dungeons, and I have my criticism of refrain, but it's not an obnoxious timegated penny-pinching bullshit like daphne is.

Plus, there's still the matter of the things you want being buried behind pages of microtransactions.
