He managed to hit the jackpot with a wife that
>was a major video game nerd
>of all games they could possibly like they were BOTH gigantic fans of Harvest Moon specifically which was the main Stardew inspiration
>she financially supported him when he seemed like a dumb literal NEET with no future financial prospects working on a game even he thought was destined to fail
>he spent SO much time working on the game it took a huge toll on their marriage because she couldn't spend time with him
>she thought of divorcing him because the game development meant he was mostly gone from her life
>she STILL stuck through him

I don't know what the wife even looks like. For all I know maybe she ain't even pretty but fuck she really stuck with her man even when he seemed like a retard making a rip-off to a mostly dead genre like Harvest Moon and yet it paid off when his game got successful. Stardew developer needs to hold onto her and never let go.

the way i heard it, he developed the game as a sort of resume so he could get a job at a real studio and he posted about it on the internet and people said they want to play it
i dont think he ever thought it wouldnt be a success but i admit i dont even remember where i read what i just wrote

I might be getting some details wrong but as I understand he was trying to get into a tech job after college but after getting declined a bunch he realized he was in a time of the year where tech wasn't hiring so he decided to start putting time into his Stardew game and it ballooned into it's own thing.

It takes time, discipline, and a certain amount of talent to pull this off.
Also, I used mods to turn all my pigs into foxes and they're so cute and make adorable sounds.
10/10 "work: the game" game.
Graveyard Keeper was also developed by a very small team, is beautiful to look at, and is fun to play being another 10/10 "work: the game" game.

GK would have been more interesting with custom mc and romance options.
Instead they gave us this bearded guy in his 40s who's in relationship and you spend that entire time to go back to her and only see a short glimpse at the end.

Knew how to code and just did it.
Lots of that code was trash though, so he probably wasn't that good at it.
Would happen to every beginner indie dev.

I disagree. The focus of the game is how many hustles you can make earning money from. It was all business business business, not a fitting setting for a romance. Also, I fail to see how the game would change were the MC custom.

All in all, it is a pretty game I spent a lot of time enjoying and it came in a time of my life where I really needed a game like that. So it's good enough for me.

Ripping off rune factory without the bloat and not locking it down to one platform isn't that impressive.
The impressive part is that it took this long for somebody to do it.

I played this for quite a while when it came out but its definitely a level or two below Stardew Valley. Still a very good game tho. But its very grindy at times and also has tons of contenz locked behind DLCs. I specifically remember ppl being really mad when in the demo the unaccessible town/city area in the south seemed to be part of the full game later on only after the release to realize it was DLC content.

The biggest fault I got with GK was that there was just SO MUCH SHIT locked behind DLC. And I think the big story mystery of "who is the nigga you see at the start of the game" is still not revealed after I finished just the vanilla, and got burned about all the locked content. Also it could have leaned way harder to the shenanigans you can do to save a few bucks and the consequences of it.

Is year 1 perfection with waivers actually possible? All the playthroughs I've seen use a seed with heavy RNG prediction or manipulation. They also start in year 2 so they have the mines and special orders available on day 1 for example.

The one guy I found who did it was outed as a cheater from another challenge. I think they also pulled the same shit in the Y1 perfection run.

Might as well get off your fat fucking NEET ass, at this rate your unique game idea is being worked on by 18 different zoomer omegas in the upcoming few years thanks to all the new AI tools coming right up, and then the whole thing will always be remembered solely with "that shitty game that could only get made thanks to AI".

>>725350575
guarantee zoomers arent making the game I want to make since I've got niche boomer tastes, and the most difficult part is the music, you gotta remember that eric barone, toby fox and probably that terraria guy were all composers first and foremost, everything else just fell in to place after that. having a shitty OST is a huge detriment.
Anonymous No.725351016 [Report] >>725351414
>>725350925
Then your biggest threat are boomers who hopped onto the AI. But yeah, I agree that a shitty OST can be a huge minus to a game these days. Feels like even bigger studios these days can just fumble with their music and it ends up a bunch of easily forgotten crap.

ai assisted gamedev is practically useless and a meme, since if you're an experienced coder, it's faster to do it yourself, and if you're a nocoder like myself, you'll spend most of the time tardwrangling the llm to do what you wanted in the first place, annoying waste of time. not to mention every one of these companies expects you to pay a monthly fee for something that can't contextualize the entire concept of your project all at once. nobody's gonna be vibecoding a fully functional 60hr rpg game any time soon

True, I'm just mostly memeing about it anyway. We are still pretty far off from the point where you can completely leave it up to AI as quite a few incidents that have come up have shown to us. Makes me wonder though, just how much are people who use AI as just a tool for working faster are managing to get done with coding for example. You usually only hear about the people who decided that the best course of action is to remove people completely from the equation for the fabled automated workflow.

That's called "soul".
Game doesn't have great music, art or even gameplay. But you can feel that developer poured heart and soul in his creation, the stuff he added was added because he wanted to add it, not because giant marketing department said he need to add this stuff to make as much money as possible.
The older I become the more I want to play games that has soul in them, like SV or Elin.
God bless ape.
