I think you quoted the wrong nigger, but let me mention a few things:

1) Sub counts haven't mattered since 2016. The metric that matters for youtubers is longform views per month. Mega64 sits at... around 150k longform views for the month.
This is a PALTRY amount of views for the month. Anyone uploading regular vidya game slop can hit 500k a month without trying.
For ad revenue, they'd be lucky to make 1k to 1.5k for the month. That's not paying for any of their wagies or office or whatever.

2) I'm not in the same niche as them. The reason they're doing horribly is that the zoomer generation doesn't give a fuck about their humor, and the algorithms don't push that type of content anymore. People don't actively search for "dressing up as snake to troll a grocery store' ever, anywhere.

3) None of their YT shit is SEO'd properly at all for anyone that would try to search them but doesn't remember their name. "snake cosplay at grocery store" no results. Where as "mega64 snake" gets the hit. Last 30 days the term "mega64" was searched 21,305 times. I'm "less known" than they are and got 16k searches for my name, yet my channel gets 5x their monthly view counts and I'm just uploading no-effort slop at the moment. WHOOPS!

Most of Jackie Chan's fight choreography revolves around a smart character doing smart things by using his environment, while Bruce Lee is every bit the force of nature he's portrayed as. It's not that their opponents are weak, it's that they themselves are smarter and more skilled.

An important distinction is that those fight scenes were directed by someone else other than Monty who had clear goals in mind for the characters. Tex is amazing whenever she acts, but she's on a very narrow time limit because that's what her character is. The Meta is a juggernaut that requires all hands on deck every time he shows up. Carolina and Washington are highly-trained supersoldiers fighting people below their pay grade or against people like Felix and Locus who aren't as disciplined but have experience and better technology to make them dangerous. These fight scenes are an important aspect of their characterization. The Reds and Blues outmaneuvering the Meta is an earned victory at the climax of their story because we've seen what the Meta can do whenever he has the chance.
Contrast this with the climax of Monty's RWBY season 1, where Torchwick's army is effortlessly wiped out before they get to do anything after a whole season of building Torchwick up as someone to be feared. But it's okay because he gets put in charge of a bigger army later and this time it's sewious. Then it happens again at the climax of season 2 when grimms flood into the city. And after hyping up grimms as unstoppable forces of darkness that only hunters can stand against, the grimms do nothing but stand in front of civilians going "OOGABOOGABOOGA!" before getting effortlessly wiped out by a beatnik and her briefcase stealing the spotlight from the main characters and denying them the chance to cap off their character growth in the finale.
Monty on a leash gets us gems like This One Goes to Eleven.
Monty left to his own devices gets us nothing important.

I think it's just a classic case of over-extending their reach; they clearly built up the capital to make the online shows they did, but in order to keep that up you need to be sure you can pull in enough income to sustain it. The problem is none of them came from backgrounds in making in shows, and the lack of expertise shows. At that point you just start bleeding money as the cost to making the things goes up but viewer retention goes down

I don't know if sticking with random video content like the video game stuff would have saved them, but it definitely wouldn't have cost as much

Red vs Blue was pretty big at first. It was around before YouTube existed, Halo was at the peak of its popularity, and the whole idea of machinima was very new at the time.
