That I agree with. That's why the intro is frustrating because it tries to set up these characters and the world before the bombs but its so brief that it doesn't have a lasting impact, it's the worst of both worlds.
A thing I've always hated about fallout 4 is the urgency introduced to the main quest of the game, you are a parent desperately searching for their lost son and that's set in stone that is who your character is and so there's immediately this disconnect whenever you waste time in the wasteland because you're supposed to be looking for your kid
