Yeah it's awesome. The really long missions are awesome, although there aren't that many of them, most of them play out like classic Armored Core where you're in (comparitively) small environments. Very cool mission design in general though, especially on NG+/++

Absolutely. The game is better than I had hoped, I only wish it got a bit more parts added in dlc. For your first two playthroughs its easy to build completely original mechs, but as you go on to your third and final ending collection plus getting high ranks on all missions, you tend to already know what's best to use and avoid 70% of parts. Fun factor of the multiple endings campaign was on about a 8 or 9 /10 for me.

I thought so, yeah. The level design was a cut above previous AC games and the missions in general ranged from neat to kino. The game's unique and interesting art design being front and center in virtually every mission certainly helped it. It's a decent game that looks pretty, the only issue is that its singleplayer is relatively short.

The basic enemies are so easy as to barely register, but if you don't mind that, it's not bad. I really liked how it embraced the old school mission based style, it feels so humble compared to bloated, empty slop like Elden Ring.

Yeah AC6 is amazing, I've seen people complain about the "stun" mechanic but literally every AC game going back to 1 had a mechanic just like it or similar. Hell even in the OG game days there was banned weapons because you could perma stun people with them.

I hope they announce VI-2 or 7 soon

in ac6 its the one time where it feels like it really waters down the game
the craziest, coolest hits dont reward you as much as just waiting until the yellow bar is filled and landing bland free hits. jumping or going right under an enemy slash into a pilebunker does fuck all, but simply holding click until their bar is filled then redeeming the free burst damage window deletes them
not to mention some direct damage, low impact, low extra-dmg-vs-staggered weapons feeling very underpowered in comparison (or maybe theyre the right level of power but everything else is too OP), but most notably these kinds of guns are pure trash against something like ayre or balteus with their shields

The first helicopter was easy, I got it second try on release as a completely newfag to FromSoftware games.

This one is pretty neat, adds tons of new parts as well as those from past games, x2-x3 the number of enemies per level and rebalances the difficulty. It leans hard into the power fantasy, overall the game becomes a bit easier but becomes balls hard during certain sections, CEL-240 gets something ridiculous like 130k health.

6.5 Please Understand Also it's patently obvious that when 6.5 drops, they're going to slap on all of the long-term multiplayer features that will justify content updates, DLC, etc. like they did with ACVD. I'm not going to suggest it'll be "Live Service(tm)" slop, but at least will have some kind of Conquest Mode equivalent and raid superbosses so people can throw their autism at more than just 1v1/3v3 multiplayer or the like, 12 total hours of campaign time.

As much as I don't give a shit about extraction shooters, Armored Core would be a much better fit. I really do like the idea of randomized mecha part loot customization and I'm not entirely sure why I've never seen a single game do that.
Also I did play Synduality for a little bit so I guess I can't hate on extraction shooters too much.

The problem in 6 is that builds revolve around the stun mechanic too much, they literally just need to tone that down by cutting stuff like damage multipliers on staggered enemies and the bonus stagger damage inflicted by kinetic weapons while assault boosting
Also if they could turn ACS overload into literally any other sort of penalty other than a hard stun that would really help, not being able to do ANYTHING when you get staggered is just not fun

I understand the frustration with the stun but i think changing it to anything less punishing would drastically alter the flow of fights and not for the better. with such an obvious reward for good play or punishment for bad play, you're forced to both push the offensive or retreat as the meter ditates. it makes a nice back and forth. without it i fear we'd be back to bunnyhop circle strafing until somebody explodes, which i know oldheads pine for but i find it exceedingly boring.

do you guys think an AC/mecha game game structured like Deep Rock Galactic, Monster Hunter, Helldivers 2, etc would work great? Be it like HD2 with its always online live serviceness, or more like Monster Hunter where you can play as an isolated online campaign with your own friends.
The only such games ive played is DRG and a bit of monhun for the record so i dont have much knowledge of the genre. im thinking of making a mecha game/ac clone for my next big game if the budget is large enough for it, been thinkering about all the options (networking is very far down on the list as it takes insane effort but its worth looking into)

I always wanted some coop or online AC, big bosses meant for coop etc, but i dont think i can make myself a proper separate coop campaign, or a campaign that serves both SP and MP, it would probably either be just a singleplayer campaign, or a game going all into being like DRG or monhun

What I love about the game is that the missions feel nice and big, but not so big that you feel like you're trawling through emptiness. Keeping the mission based structure really helped the game maintain consistency. The real issue is that anything that isn't an AC can be pretty trivial to fight. There's also some S tier weapons that can make the game a bit too easy. Avoid using those zimmerman shotguns if you want a good challenge.

The thing that people don't realize is that mechs are a great answer to a lot of design patterns you need for a shooter

Aiming is hard? The mech has a targeting system and target prediction
Movement is slow? The mech can be fast and agile and dodge
Customization feels useless? Now you get to customize a huge robot that you can easily see AND even a pilot as well, maybe
How do you make cool loadouts, Items and cool equipment without it looking ridiculous on people? Just kit out your fucking robot and its parts

It solves so much stuff! And yet all we get is mechwarrior shit and japanese devs trying and failing to make dogshit shooters

Because deep down 99% of people who were old enough to have ever played an AC game on original hardware before AC6, and those who had gone back to emulate the series in response to 6's release, were primarily fans of 4th gen. The problem is that the current "flow" of fights is mostly people rushing each other, it's really basic.
They don't need to make ACS overload irrelevant but having mechanics like the assault boost kinetic weapons stagger damage buff PLUS a hard-stun on ACS overload is too much when put together in the same game, to a point where the more you learn how the game works the shallower it gets instead of the reverse

I like Verdict Day, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. The game had a ton of problems outside of the performance. need I remind you of the unnecessary DLC, the abysmal online war that ultimately didn't mean anything at the end of the day (nobody cared which of the three factions won), how half the time you were just grinding boxes on empty maps, how half the weapons were useless (like any of the sentry weapons that deployed individual guns and missiles) or how the superbosses were impossible to fight because they would only show up on the map for maybe a few hours while the "war" was on hold? ACV had the same problem where the fun superbosses were impossible to fight because they were online exclusive and hidden behind nonsensical timers.

I only ever got to fight Type D #005 once, and I'm angry that I can't fight him again.

Got S rank in both solo / team ranked, even have the top 100 name plate for team ranked. Never grinded the solo enough to get into the top 100 because solo ranked is just not fun in this game. Never played in tournaments because I couldn't be arsed to find a team to play with and my friends never even finished the game.

For me it's a much harder game than the typical souls, but that's a good thing. Unlike soulshit, fighting in AC6 is actually fun.

so I loved every seconds of my struggles against the bosses. I made the game harder on myself by going for the lightest builds exclusively though.

To be fair to them people have beaten the game with Loader 4 and no OS mods and clone builds every NPC in the game. Zim zams, song birds, and twin gats on a tank were just overtuned. There were a lot of balance patches so they're still strong but more in line.

As others have said, build what you want. Doesn't matter what it is someone will point to a part and claim it's OP and that you didn't beat the game.

I admire mission variety, but was there really anything to do in those hallways? You'd shoot a trash mob maybe once in a while, but that was mostly it. Unless you brought a radar, or a head equipped with radar, you were mostly just backtracking left and right to find the objective and hope that it doesn't come bundled with a "escape the building before it self-destructs" section.

With that said, there are exceptions. I adored the inside missions from Armored Core 2, Another age, 3 and Silent Line. Extra kudos goes out to that one mission in AC3 where you go into a sinking freighter ship and the whole thing is basically a vertical drop since the ship is sinking.

Holy fuck nothing will top beating Balteus with a well placed sword stroke after three hours of trying things out. It all comes down to pure execution at that point since you have nothing. Even if you do dual bubblers on him then you lose the DPS race since they suck. I skipped emulating V but VD works if you update everything. However it crashes going to the garage more than once. So save a lot. I can't tell you how many times I was like "ooh, rank up. New parts!" and then had to play a chunk over again.

Also with no online ranking up is a bit of a pain. You can get online working but everyone there is a killer the likes you'd expect.

I do kinda wish standard MT's were a bit more of a bother. In classic AC one wasn't a problem but the attrition of a full level was something concerning.
In AC6 you're basically untouchable though. Bosses are very hard to compensate but it makes the standard missions less memorable. Even a standard AC fight isn't too much.

The only exception is breaking into RADs place. That mission was big enough to start to feel attrition.

I played pre nerf and I struggled with every single major boss: helicopter, Balteus, spider, enforcer, Ibis, Snail, just what I remember off the top of my head. I cheesed Ibis and Snail with dual Gatling wheelchair that I saw suggested on /vg, and others kept retrying for hours. The game is just anxiety-inducing. Just zerg him down with guns, never give him an inch, and then hit him with big melee attacks.
MIGHTNING here with some tweaks for each fight will win any boss fight in the game. Maybe don't use the Laser Slicer against Balteus because the way it recoils from damage I've noticed some of the hits don't land. Bunker is probably best

With the addition of the DLC, Elden Ring might be one of the worst stories I've ever seen in a game. They made the lore as cryptic as possible, more than any of their games to date, and yet when you actually do the torturous work of piecing the various item descriptions together it's just a giant, wet pile of shit without any concern for character or continuity or anything. Just fucking abysmal that they've been allowed to get away with slop like this and even get praise for it.

Which makes it all the more baffling that AC6's story and characters ended up being as good as they are. I think Yamamura might be the real talent at From Software, Miyazaki seems to have suffered a stroke since the days of Demon's Souls.

The corporate dystopia in any given oldgen game disappears towards the end. In most games the corporations all either die fighting each other or die unleashing a new weapon or die because a super computer kills them or whatever, and then there's still a quarter to a third of the game to go.
There's always a bigger fish to deal with.

tbf the feeling is clearly made stronger by it being an enemy mech, and it's an enemy-only mech like usual because it's not designed for part swapping. ACs unfortunately have to be samey to plug in together. 6 even puts effort in by adding extra long structures for back parts with odd shapes.

It'd be nice to have a spinoff with bespoke designs or something so they can get more weird with the mechs, but it'd have to have a different focus.
