Blame the retarded 'le prepare to die' portion of the fanbase. They don't see these things as inconsequential video games, they tie their self-worth to the difficulty.

There was so much more to appreciate in demons souls and dark souls. The level designs, the bleak and grounded medieval art style, the collision and positioning based fight system - but the only thing dumb ningens cared about was le difficulty.

Positioning stopped mattering in DS2, when enemies started blatantly turning on turntables. And then it was kicked up a notch in DS3, where enemies started maneuvering mid-air to home in on you if you dodged after they jumped.

Wuchang already solved this problem. You can roll, block, deflect, parry, or clash attacks, and if you use magic you can use alacrity. I think the spears have another tool too.
The fun thing is that those only work against weapons, against melee you have to either dodge or block (can't deflect), but also have that one spell that nullifies one attack.

By blocking. Blocking while walking backwards should be your default reaction to every new attack. Any character in the game can use a medium shield with barricade shield ash.

If you are a shield fag, block it. Otherwise you could do what you can do with 99% of other attacks that aren't sweeps in elden ring and simply use the run button to escape on the bosses side. Enemy tracking on vertical attacks pretty much never beats running.

It literally is a completely different defensive mechanic, both in defensive benefits given and the timing of stringing them together; you're doing multiple strawmen arguments at once to try and make them seem the exact same.
For one, a roll in Souls/ER straight up gives you a massive amount of iframes. You can roll through a building sized dinnerplate being slammed down directly on your position.You can do no such thing in Sekiro.

Funnily enough I agree with your initial point that the animation is fucking retarded and to be honest if the default "evasion" in a Souls game was a backstep or something I wouldn't even have any stake in any of these arguments.
