No, but they should overhaul it. Breeding used to be super important for competitive and shiny hunting, but with bottle caps, mints, and easier shiny methods, it's kinda redundant now. It just feels like busywork unless you're specifically doing masuda method. Either bring it back with meaningful mechanics or just lean all the way into picnic sandwich RNG.

It proves eugenics works both ways. Breed shit with shit and you keep getting shit until you roll lucky.

Yeah, it's too much of a time sink.
People should be able to alter their Pokémon with just a simple customization screen. EVs, Natures, etc.. should be easily changed by a simple slider.

Breeding was never useful in an actual playthrough. You're not magically going to discover a new species like Fusion in other games so the only thing that is cool/useful as a casual is "My favorite guy can learn new moves". But you have to start back from level 1 every time you do this. There is zero guide on what moves transfer or what egg groups mons are in anywhere in the game. And above all Pokemon is a babby game so why subject yourself to a pointless grind?
Maybe it would be salvageable if levels carried down to children or if modern XP Candies existed back then. But Game Freak gave up on it by adding the Mirror Herb which lets you get egg moves without touching breeding.

The new species discovered are the baby versions, but the real strat was to trade out your pokemon to friends as a breeding stud so they can get their own version of it and then have them trade it back afterward. Better than having to give up your mons to complete a dex.
