This really stretches the definition of a "game." There is technically gameplay, but the entire mechanic is essentially completely optional. It has no real failure state and progress in it affects literally nothing. The other gameplay mechanic, "choices", also have yet to change anything so far. The cutscenes themselves are entirely prerendered video too. You could cut together a few montages from dispatch screen banter, play it intermittedly throughout each episode, put it on YouTube, and get essentially the exact same experience as actually playing it.

It's an FMV game with some extremely minimalist presentation. The real joy of the experience though is in the random chances of dispatching. You bond with the team through your dispatch and the way you complete the mission tasks. There's no way you can care AS MUCH about everyone if you don't have that experience of sending that specific hero to handle that specific job and seeing them succeed against all odds. Yeah, it's possible to minmax it perfectly. But most of the time, you have to take chances. And it's in those moments that heroes get made!

What would you guys think of a new mode in the final release? It'd be a purely dispatch randomizer of all the missions of Eps 1-8. You can build your team from any characters from the base game, including the tutorial team, but each of them costs a certain number of points to assign to your team. So you'd only start with enough points to either field the basic Z-team (Sonar or Coupe, Golem, Flambae, Prism, Invisigal, Punch-Up, maybe Waterboy with how weak he starts) or a smaller number of other characters like cutting 2-3 characters from the base Z-Team to afford 1 or 2 characters from the Downtown team. Anyway the goal of the mode is to gain points by completing missions, with points awarded based on performance. Points are deducted when a hero fails a mission, when a hero from another team completes a mission (not as bad as failing), is otherwise injured, and/or downed. The game ends when the player's points hit 0, when the other team's points hits 0, or when their current active team have all been defeated, or alternatively when the player chooses to clock out and end the game - at the point the game ends, if their score beats their previous high score, it will overwrite it. There's pseudo-leaderboard for players to compare their highscore to other players.
After the initial roster selection, even if there's no room, players can "fire" existing party members. Any characters not in the active roster belongs to a different team competing with the player for points (which is how the sabotage mechanic from ep 3 would be implemented as a hazard in this mode).

Dispatch is more like an interactive tv show, obviously given its production history, but I think it works much better in this case.
