There's some people in Hollywood that have a real weird chip on their shoulder about video games. Obviously none of those people respect him. I think the fact though that he's now had a few famous directors say good things about him and that it's mostly been the things: he really loves movies, he makes weird art that's clearly his vision and what he wants to make. At the very least it probably endears him to most people in Hollywood that actually care about art.

I dunno, more often than not I find myself thinking that Kojima loves movies to such a degree that he goes out of his way to emphasize that. Judging by the stuff he likes, it's actually surprising how superficial his taste is.

Yeah but I'm sort of talking about how John Carpenter told his lawyers not to sue him over Solid Snake because he had sent John so many fan letters praising him. Kojima had a reputation in Hollywood before he even met any of these people because of having such an earnest love of movies and just actually sending fan letters to directors. You're Mads or Norman Reedus and you find out this guy really wants to work with you and all you know about him is how directors you know say really kind things about how much he loves your work and then you read the script and it's clearly some really weird shit that no corporate exec is pushing. I imagine that actually makes a lot of actors happy even if they don't get him or his work. It's more interesting than being in your 29th superhero slop film.
