Previews coming friday, nintendo probably releasing something before then next week. Don't know if I'll watch them, want the game to be as fresh as possible
I want this game to be good but I'm not feeling optimistic. Metroid shouldn't have any open world/zone slop. I'm predicting a ranking of 2 > 1 >>>>>>>>>>>>> 3 = 4.

that's too long of a wait for a direct if previews drop on friday, it would have to be before. I don't think prime 4 is a game that needs a direct or would benefit from a long one, an overview trailer like totk would work better

it's ok. A lot better than fusion which I think is shit but still missing good core exploration which is essential to metroid. Good action/combat segments though (fuck the EMMI zones however, those are awful). It's also clear the game had a lot cut/was rushed (confirmed by ex devs, nintendo axed half the game in development)

Really? Fusion has been criticized since the day it launched and continues to be the most divisive metroid game with people thinking it's one of the best or one of the worst. Dread was overrated as hell on release but overtime has garnered more fitting reception

Dread is pretty good, gameplay and level design is good, but the environment design and music both suck. I also like how it moves the story forward.
The last dude who replies hated Fusion however, which is my absolute fave, so your mileage may vary.
Fusion > Super > Zero Mission > Dread > Samus Returns = Metroid 2 > Metroid
>>725400696 >level design is good
you are constantly funneled into bottlenecked areas which have to be supplemented by frequent teleporters/trams with enormous load times because the designers couldn't make the game flow properly. Then again, fusion is your favorite so that kind of restriction is a positive for you. At least dread has sequence breaking even if the EMMI zones and tying upgrades to them completely fucks it up.
>>725394697 >everyone cried about Prime 3 being too linear >Nintendo course corrects by making Prime 4 open world
It’s like the transition from Skyward Sword to Breath of the Wild all over again.
The level design can still be good while also being flawed in the way you mentioned. I've never really understood the obcession with sequence breaking
I found it fun exploring the areas themselves, as in each zone has good level design in its own right but yes, they don't flow together very well compared to Super or Zero Mission.

I don't think metroid games need sequence breaking so long as their main game progressions are properly semi-linear/non linear but dread is linear so it needs sequence breaks to supplement its level design

I'm almost 40 and never in my life have I played a game more than once (directly) besides Metroid Dread, which I played three times without a break. It was really excellent imo. Dunno about the load times, I emulated it and it was fine.
