Sea of Thieves
Will a sequel not restrained by Xbox One's hardware save Rare or will it not be able to capture lightning twice?
The fact that it managed to have legs and bounce back is kind of a miracle

It's a live service slop, why does it need a sequel?

Sea of Thieves was weird. It has had tons of content over the years, but since they are almost always one-off stuff you can never access later means the game feels weirdly empty. Unless you get hard on just grinding PvP, there's, what, like 2 unique mission types per faction and the smattering of Tall Tales. After like 20 hours you've already seen everything the fame has to offer.

I've seen people say they want one/expecting one since the base Xbox One is holding it back or something

Then close your eyes nigga. Stop spreading shit from other peoples toilet into our place.
Having a successful and running live service is what everyone wants. Putting all that budget and high risk into a sequel that likely fails and maybe kills the old one is just retarded.

>bounce back
Bounce back from where? The game has been losing players hard for the past 2 years. It was only relevant for a brief time, because of the "pandemic".

I slightly disagree, but you do have a point. It's primarely a sandbox game, you need to imagine your own fun.

Anyway. I would LOVE to see a sequel, but only if they take the game into a new direction. There's tons of people who enjoy the setting and just want to have fun, sailing with friends. The toxic PVP crowd is a major hindarence to the whole game.

Forget PvP, it's dogshit. But that isn't the worst thing I've seen. The worst was sailing with someone and telling them they were wrong, that storm in the distance wasn't our objective. He told us we were gay retards We went there, proved him wrong, and he got pissy. So we go to do the actual mission, and while diving I return to the ship to find it sailing unnmanned, on fire, with holes all over it. And all our treasure thrown overboard one piece at a time by our own crewmate. Uninstalled after that. Fucking Athenas missions.

Yes, the possible sequel would also need better matchmaking or co-op support. It's ridiculous that "open crew" is totally random, and the game doesn't have proper clans either.

I hear the "its a sandbox game you have to make your own fun" argument a lot but I just dont get it. If you have to make your own fun, the game isnt fun. Hell, I could go to an actual sandbox and have way less restrictions in what I can do for fun. "You have to make your own fun" isnt a positive thing to say about a game.

It's not like Rare has much of a choice
They've planned out five more years of Sea of Thieves and it's the one thing that's keeping them alive after Everwild got canned

It's not just that, it's the punishment of trying to play on safer seas and having more than half of the content restricted. Every single one of my friends quit playing due to PvP. I don't particularly like stealing from people, and bailing water is fucking boring and gay. Just let me sail and kill shitty skeletons. Best servers I've played on are ones you press all the players into an alliance together and you just make fat stacks of DUBLOONS.

That's okay, anon. Not every game is for everyone.

Personally I like its sandbox-y nature, and would take a possible sequel even more into that direction, with randomised islands/maps, etc.

I can understand that, eventho alliance servers also go against the nature of the game, IMHO.

Ideally there would be pure PVE and PVP seas, with an optional mixed sea inbetween. There's multiple ways this could be done. A lot of MMOs work like that, and I don't understand why SoT does not.

Just having a bit more enemy variety, couple more complex missions and more player-driven world events would be great for longevity. Imagine for example an event where you take over a fort and need to protect it from other players - the longer you do the more you earn, but each player killed also gives a bonus. Maybe spawn some enemies or have a puzzle spawn if no player ships exist within x tiles. Now world event PvP feels rewarding instead of just "ugh fuck we gotta fight these idiots off for no extra benefit, I wish they just fucked off".

Also if there's SoT2, ditch the pre-generated map. It gets stagnant fast. Make more islands and have each server pick, say, 6 islands to spawn to Nu-Devils Roar from a pool of (as many as you can make, maybe even add more later). Now each map feels more unique and adventurous.

What specifically about the game is being restrained by Xbone? It runs fine and looks good for its age. If the sequel is a fundamental overhaul of how the game is played, sure, go for it, but if it's just "there's better textures and ray tracing!" then fuck that, that's just an excuse to make people rebuy all their paid cosmetics.

Supposedly the mapsize. That's why it has never changed.
