You are just at the start of the game it's just luck unless you enter codes to get the good cards like solemn judgement to avoid getting blasted by an unlucky mirror force/raigeki which most duelists spam. Most opponents have shit backrow removal and terrible monsters that take multiple turns to get anywhere so stuff like malevolent nuzzler + 4 star beaters is enough to keep them all down.

Yugi kind of sucks early on, it's why the Pharaoh had to fight all his battles at first. Also, I think the Pharaoh is also in the game as a separate opponent from Yugi.
