I, too, share this sentiment and urging.

1991? Isn't that Persona 2?

How do people feel about 2 in general compared to 1 anyways? I like a lot about the second one, but I still think I prefer 1's story overall.

I prefer 2s setting more than 1

I like 1's story as a premise for a setting where supernatural influence lurks about, but I feel like 2 delves into the actual premise of supernatural influence on a civilization shape by it.

Why can't SMT be this good anymore?

I like 1 a lot more than 2 desu. 2 is more ambitious I'll admit but I think 1 has everything connect together significantly better. The mystical cosmic feel of it adds a lot to the atmosphere. 2 felt more like you're just bumbling into places until Satan decides to be a prick.

already played and beat it multiple tiems, I'm trying the PSX version now.

I prefer 1 even if 2 got more content, 1's atmosphere is unmatched, BUT 2's setting is fantastic and quite unique all in all

I love how fast pace this RPG is. This is easily a "Japanese" Fallout 1.

I like 2 a lot better. 10/10 setting (Actual Cyberpunk), the BEST Law route in the series, the BEST Neko variant, better story, and a good amount of catgirls in general. Back tracking suck balls, though. Its probably the only SMT where you don't take shit from Lucy, humiliate and kill him.

It was my first first person dungeon crawler, what a great way to be introduced to the genre. Everything from its atmosphere to music to exploration was just fantastic to me, although I would still like a hard mode that actually makes it more challenging in combat specifically. My only gripe in what I otherwise consider to be totally superb gaming.

I haven't played Devil Summoner or Soul Hackers yet, so maybe I'll see a decline there, maybe not. My guess is probably not, they look fun. For me I felt a noticeable difference going from SMT1 and 2 to Nocturne, initially hating it until I learned to love it for what it is rather than what it isn't. I still like newer SMT but man, the Super Famicom era of Megaten is so cool and unique to me.

I love 2, particularly how it builds on 1.
>demons like Pixies, Dwarves, Elves are now NPCs and peaceful
>the Ring of Gaea are pushed away from the center, shown by them being in slums with their healing places mostly in the underworld
>influx of pop culture themed demons far more noticeable than in 1
It works as a sequel, but the concept works as a standalone too. A religious dystopia whose leaders are abandoned by god, leading them to contrive their own miracles right down to an artificial messiah.

Did it? I thought V and VV were pretty successful for the mainline series. Of course, Persona is Atlus' darling, but what can you do?
