Tegeneria if you want the d-pad to be somewhat big and loose feeling. Shanwan Q38 if you want to only ride the edge of the d-pad, otherwise it won't be accurate. FANTECH Switch Controller if you want an Xbox style controller. Apeshit Dough SN30 Pro if you want a SNES style controller. Elves 2 if you want a SNES style controller with grips.

I'm waiting for TT pro to come out. If the SN30 Pro ever gets TMR sticks then I'll get that, because I want it in other transparent colors and I believe it will happen.
I would recommend the Switch 2 controller if it was working in PC - best feeling sticks and the satin feel is unmatched. It is massively overpriced.
Shanwan Q38 is my choice for emulating older 3D games that don't require precise use of the right analog stick. The sticks are the most "accurate" I've used so far for any hall effect stick controller. I like its thickness. Tegeneria and FANTECH as well as Elves 2 and SN30 pro are my other recommendations for playing older 3D games.
By older 3D games I mean 5th and 6th gen console games.
If you require six face buttons or a controller with an octogate you're gonna have to go for something else.
I can't recommend the 8bitdo pro 2 or any of their ultimate style controllers if you care about d-pad feeling good and/or being accurate. Recessed d-pads feel bad.
I'll wait for retro fighters to come out with their next iteration of their N64 controller before I try another N64 controller. 8bitdo's wasn't too bad but the d-pad being the same as the rest of the ultimate style controllers was a big letdown.
Maybe someday a manufacturer will make a Nintendo 64 controller that has the same stretched out diagonal corners as the original has.
Using any OEM controller with an appropriate adapter is always preferred for emulation.
