Yes. Any effort spent trying solely to make a game make more money is effort not spent making it a better game, which is why gacha trash are invariably complete dogshit.

Always a downside, even if it's purely in-game with no MTX. The boxes by design must have some kind of killer reward to make interacting with them desirable, and actually obtaining this reward fucks up the game balance every time.
