If we're talking about modern games, at that point I'd just have a character creator, or allow you to customize your own armor.
But even then, "unique", is sadly overrated. Look at how many people were crowing over the fact that the number one character combo in Baldur's Gate 3 beta was Human male fighter.
People talk about how Femshem in Mass Effect had a better VA, but the stats show only ~18% picked femshep.

I would love to have more unique main characters in games. But as games have gotten so much more expensive and time consuming to make, people start getting nervous about not making their money back and they want to play it safe. They want relatable characters that the player can attach themselves to. The Prawns in District 9 are awesome, but we all know AVATAR made more money.
Isekai was just an example I used for Eastern games. In reality most games are Isekai in nature, due to the setting being fictional and fantastical. I don't see a game like Mass Effect to be all that different from Final Fantasy. Biotics is just magic by another name functionally.
