the entire point is that Cloud probably picks up on shit fast as evidenced by the dancing, and probably just saw Zack wield it a few times and remembered what to do. Also, from a ludonarrative standpoint you literally gain experience and level up, so he's probably just using the Buster Sword as a hunk of metal before canonically getting better with it as the story goes forward. You're not beating anything special with it in the first few dungeons that can't just be overcome with
