How come this place doesn’t have a game dev general? It’d be cool to get coders, artists, composers, etc to gather and make some bullshit together. I’m an amateur composer (a game I worked on is gonna release for free on Steam) and I’d be happy to find projects to add to my experience

Idle>Walking>Jumping>Landing
You will never need to idle while landing and never need to walk while jumping so you never need to create transitions. Landing and jumping is a one shot with a script to stop jumping when landing while the walking blend value is based on speed.
States work too but I enjoy how autistic you can make blends work to make everything more procedural.

I'm using it for a multiplayer 3D game and it does not appear to have any roadblocks. Multiplayer works like a dream if you use steam multiplayer and are not a retard.
There is some shit you need to do for yourself though like IK and shit but I love how small the engine is compared to unity and unreal giving my computer aids loading all the editor assets.

how do I motivate myself to learn or start anything when there's this looming notion hanging over me that it will take at least 6 years of daily effort to produce anything that would meet my own pre-set impossible standards?

I'd have to learn how to compose music, draw/sculpt/animate whether it's 2d sprites, textures or 3d modelling, learn how to code in some language as well as the ins and outs of the engine i choose and who knows what else. ALL WHILE trying to fight against giving up midway because what I've been doing so far on the journey either looks like shit, sounds like shit, doesn't work, etc.

It depends on the type of game you're making, but in general, you shouldn't do anything that will take more than three months to complete. You do something extremely simple, cutting out all the paths you can, and only dedicate yourself to it if it shows promise or is monetizable.
Basically, that "game jam" thing or whatever. Note that it's very common to find successful games that were born out of game jams or much simpler projects (like Pico 8 games), such as Baba is You, Celeste, among others.

Note: my field isn't exactly comparable to normal games, since I make dating sims, but it took me exactly three months to make my first game, and it was just a simple dating sim where there was only one girl you could date. I received a few emails from people asking how they could pay me to do more things in the game, and it was only then that I organized a crowdfunding campaign on Patreon and really started working on the project for the long term.

I released my steam demo with moderate reddit advertising, and have reached >100 wishlists. I don't think it hit crazy numbers or anything, but at least there's people interested in playing it to some degree.
The biggest impact was advertising to craps players (shocker), but sadly there isn't a great place to reach them. I have a few dedicated craps youtubers I plan to reach out to, but I might shift my focus to general rougelite players.

If the player can instantly tell that I'm speaking through a 5 dollar mic or that AI was used (tech isn't there yet) then it's fucked. Everyone is just telling you that the absence of it unironically would be better than those alternatives. If your AI voices don't sound better than arc raiders then just throw in the towel.
