I really wish the Dark Shrine was much scarier, as it stands, it's possibly the least scary otherworld in the series. Needed to be darker as well so they can make use of a flash light but I can see why they did it the way they did because of the heavy melee focus.

Was also a bit jarring for NPCs to just disappear and come back as if nothing happened.

I really like the aesthetic of the old Japaneae castle. I agree that it isn't that scary (especially compared to the two fog town dungeons), but this sort of setting is always has a refreshing aspect to me I can't ever hate.

Also I would point out NPCs dissapearing then reappearing as if nothing happened 2 hours later is a staple of the series. It's supposed to be unnerving even if it sometimes comes across as funny ("how can you sit here and eat pizza?!"

I use the charge attack instead of waiting around for counters, and the damage buff from wolf usually kills quick enough that my weapons are always fully charged. Use hawk so I don't ever have to worry about sanity.

That's because you chose the hard combat mode didn't you. If you choose the default made the game isn't combat heavy at all. See a lot of people complaining about this when it's not actually the default recommended way to play. Mind you the default way is too easy, that's a different problem. But at least you don't get bored with samey combat

I originally had really mixed feelings on the combat, adapted to it and now I grew indifferent.
Story difficulty is too easy, while lost in the fog is an arduous torture, hard is good enough with an omamori setup that works for you.

I cannot tell you the number of games released after 2020 that I never ever hear anyone discussing. There are like a handful of games made between 1999 and 2012 that are essentially 99% of all game culture. The rest are somewhat popular AA games and one or two AAA slops for the masses like CoD. Silent Hill F will be forgotten in a year but at this rate this is not even an own.... Yes it is a woke slop game, but it just being memory holled is kinda normal even if it was a real fun game. Nah Origins felt like bad fanfiction to me, I actually hate the fact that it exists. Shattered Memories just felt boring to me because survival horror without action just isn't interesting. SH4 has a cool story but what a horrible game to actually play. Homecumming is the opposite, fun to play, cool atmosphere, but what a horrible story. SH3 is neat but it just feels like a shittier version of 1 and 2, doesn't have enough unique ideas. I love Heather though.
