duskwood isnt kino its quite possibly the worst <30 zone in the entire fucking game and only becomes slightly palatable once you know how to avoid the gigantic dead space in the middle
like yeah sure every time i want to go to sven or raven hill i should... fly to westfall and walk east
i think id rather do stonetalon a thousand times before doing duskwood even once

Why is it that Alliance flightpaths are so bad? Both location and what they connect to. I will never complain about Horde flightpaths ever again after levelling an Alliance character.
can we be honest for a moment and reconcile the fact that every leveling zone in vanilla sucks to incentivize grouping for dungeons in between the dearth of quests and necessity of mob grinding?

loch modan is good in that it suffers somewhat the same problem as duskwood (being split east/west with a giant obstacle in the middle) but that it solves the problem by having the two halves generally never crossing over each other apart from breadcrumb quests and the ogre elites in the north
you can get the gnolls and animal quests between thelsamar and stormpike done in 30-45 minutes as well as the troggs in the south west in about an hour max
then the rest of the zone is doing ironbands and farstrider lodge + the ogre elites

Alliance content is what was designed first because it's what the devs had all their big original ideas for, but that also meant that it was all designed early when they had less experience with actually putting shit into the game, so it came out soulful but janky. That's why a lot of Horde quest hubs are more conveniently located and their FPs route so much better.

Vanilla zones are great right up until around level 40 when the quests start being harder to come by and the necessity of group content becomes greater AND everything is spread farther apart so travel time is immediately a bigger issue especially if you weren't able to get a mount right away.
>>725465160
vanilla is shit and I'm sad to be vindicated as a tbc enjoyer, despite hating that privates and classic servers are all based on final patch and deny players the enjoyment of going through each patch.
>>725465259
It starts getting gay around 20 and really drops off at 30. When your only options are 5 quests in desolace, very northern stranglethorn, and shimmering flats at 30-34 you're kinda cooked. You ARE NOT meant to kill orange mobs to level. You ARE meant to grind green/yellows or dungeon with people consistently to bypass these lulls until the 50s where you dungeon permanently with other people to attune and gear.
>>725465389
>It starts getting gay around 20
No way, 20-30 is great because that's when every class finally gets a full enough toolkit of abilities and talents to really feel like it has come online and the zones are still good enough and convenient enough to be enjoyable. Plus you finally get some interesting dungeons to run with actual good quests and quest rewards so you only have to clear them once rather than grind them repeatedly. It only starts to suck at 30 as things spread out more but 40 is when the content gaps really kill off any enjoyment.
>>725465389
>privates and classic servers are all based on final patch and deny players the enjoyment of going through each patch
as opposed to...?
i dont think a lot of people realise that going "patch by patch" is just a roundabout term for releasing honor/mc, bwl, zg, aq and then naxx when in reality it also includes the constant talent resets because of how much tweaking each class got every 1.X as well as seeing random shit in dungeons go from green to blue with a small ilvl increase
"patch by patch" is not what you think it means
>>725465630
>20% of barrens playable for 20-30
>ashenvale maybe has 8 quests before level 26
>stonetalon is completely fucking empty
>hillsbrad has a few level 22 quests then it's all 25+
Yeah, it's so good. So good that you're going across the world for paltry zones. Alliance is barely any better and gets worse for 30-50 (no hinterlands lol)
>>725465706
As opposed to final patch and delayed release raids. I want the original patch progression, not content progression alone. Yes, it is what I think it means. I want the original game LOL

>Even if you choose to level in Silverpine you will most likely hit up Barrens at some point to get some of the quests for Wailing Caverns

It's so funny to watch hordeniggers cope with their lack of proper leveling zones by implying that a big, empty savanna literally called "The Barrens" where they have to run around for like 20 levels with three other races, is a good leveling zone. Blizzard were right not to give Horde zones any love or care, because it just proves Horde players are the lowest denominator.

It's not the save devs anymore, and the vision of how games like that work changed over 20 years. You have SoD as an example. Turtle is doing ok (but got too controversial and openly fights Blizzard now which won't end well), and Epoch added some nice quests and all but is down to 200 players because no one is updating it and most people moved to Bronzebeard (which is an abomination of retail lite rather than classic+)

SOD was a sinking ship for the first 8 months of content and only then did it stabilise because of sunk cost and finally raising the level cap to 60
only then did it actually keep a decent semblance of players but there was no growth due to all of the 1-59 content being invalidated
its a greatly accelerated example of the tbc>wotlk>cata>mop cycle

The best part of later phase sod was leveling alts and raiding on multiple classes once they added the ability to straight buy runes
It had a really incredible 1-60 thanks to all the xp boosts, levelling raids, gear from those raids and the new crafted gear so you could juice the fuck out of yourself and basically run around 1 shotting mobs doing every quest at once or speeding through dungeons with just 2-3 people. Most of the people left playing it on the megaservers were levelling alts. Sod had problems and the 1-59 content wasn't one of them

Retard. SM is 4 separate intances you would have to combine into 1, and the problem is you can't just funnel 20 people into those narrow corridors.
>instance being too big
Not a single word about size in BRD description, you want to get inside for smelting/crafting and a dozen other farms and activities that are popular there, making the zone into a raid would only complicate things.
>to get into molten core before 1.3?
Yeah no shit, and now you further complicate it by making people go into raid via other raid.
The zone is perfect as a dungeon you can explore at your leisure later on, especially when you get strong enough to solo or skip parts of it, it's a cool fucking underground city that shouldn't be made into a raid. If anything they should introduce a questline or something where you can eventually enter it as a neutral city with new quests, new dark iron crafting recipes and shit, as an alternate continuation to the story with Moira as the leader. It would be way more interesting direction for the zone than making it another raid next to two other raids.

How the fuck is that even related to anything? Do you really expect them to just combine them again because uhhhhh they were planned to be a single zone first? What's next, second floor to Ironforge (like planned in the alpha!), Emerald Dream and Hellfire Peninsula just wished into existence? Stop spewing random trivia you learned about in youtube video like it makes you some guru on the subject, when I'm talking about them taking the zones they have NOW and tuning them into updated content with the level of effort they are actually willing to do. Nobody in Blizzard is remaking 4 SM wings into a single raid, but Gnomer has the potential to be easily updated. Same for ST vs BRD.
Fucking idiot.

you wouldnt need to "remake" 4 SM wings into one when literally all it takes is moving the models around, increasing mob and boss hp and adding boss mechanics. the latter two which they did to BFD with basically no effort
the emerald dream is already in the game files, half finished but the majority of the groundwork is there as is the pre-tbc version of hfp :)

People who think they want the original game are retarded. The original game fucking sucked. Best example: In the original game the enemy debuff limit was 8. Not 8 per player. 8 total. Pretty much every fucking class had debuffs, and a raid fit 40 people. How fun to be one of 3-6 people who's allowed to put ONE debuff on the boss. "Oh whoops, every melee player does less damage now because someone invited a shadow priest and now there's no sunder armor on the boss".
Vanilla WoW was a classic example of: "Bad game, but we didn't have anything better". for YEARS literally every patch made to WoW was a straight up improvement over something that was ass backwards. And even was ass backwards at the time. It wasn't "oh we didn't know better". People knew that having a debuff limit of 8 was retarded. people knew that it was retarded that you had to kill 24 extremely spaced out zhevras, to get 4 zhevra hooves, something that you logically should be able to get FROM A SINGLE FUCKING ZHEVRA. Or the fact that a mage could just spam rank 1 frostbolts and kite a melee forever, lmao. People who want this shit back, want to go back to the metaphorical womb.

My favorite bit of vanilla world building is how the human questline leaves the origins of the worgen as a mystery, but there's an entire other night elf questline that starts in ashenvale that takes you all over the world and eventually reveals exactly where they came from. Having a storyline weave around the world like that is really good shit.

the debuff limit can easily be patched out and has been patched out on every private server core since basically forever. the patch by patch i was referencing was the item and class change bullshit that made you respec every patch or how Shadefiend Boots from BRD arena went from a green 4str 6stam 9agi in 1.2 to a blue 10str 13stam 11agi in 1.10
item and class dumbfuckery like that is stupid as fuck and is specifically why blizzard picked 1.12 for classic back in 2019 since otherwise it would've been a clusterfuck

Horde honestly has a lot of advantages
>better flightpaths
>better travel options with their zeppelins, good coverage of both continents
>better racials
>shaman is better than paladin
>better access to better dungeons (Stockades is the shittiest dungeon in the game, Undercity is right outside SM and the Plaguelands, RFK and RFD are awful for Alliance to reach)
>better placement of cities
>can just sit in the Barrens for an eternity because it's the densest zone in the game and covers a massive range of levels
>more efficient leveling zones in general
>lmao Jintha'alor
The only major advantages you can place on Alliance are in aesthetics and storywriting, which are subjective and debatable (though I personally agree that they're better). The problem is that the better adherence to writing often fucks the Alliance over. With shit like the human leveling path ping-ponging back and forth between multiple zones, not having a flightpath at the Rebel Camp (which makes STV, one of the best leveling zones in the game, miserable on Alliance), and tougher questing in general.
There's a reason """""competitive""""" groups usually opt for Horde. They just have an objectively better experience, probably because they were designed second and the devs learned lessons on how to make things a bit more convenient.

And my entire point is that nobody actually wants the old game, because the old game sucked, and it continued to suck, and every patch it was made to suck a little less. "playing" on the latest patch and then just having dungeons unlock after a while is objectively the best way to deal with the jank that is vanilla. An even better way is to completely redo it.
Vanilla was retarded in so many ways.

Fucking joke, making every class have 3 talent trees and for a bunch of them 2 were traps that meant if you specced into them, nobody would want you in their party, lmao.
Oh and the classic lie about:
>In vanilla, with trees at least you had build choice!
Did you? Did you fuck. Most classes had absolute cookie cutter identical builds, because it was very fucking clear which talents were worth a damn, and which ones were trash, and the most build diversity you ever got was "put the last 2 leftover points wherever". If you played a warrior and you put one point in each tree one after the other, guess what? You end up with a character not invited to the raid, instead of your unique Idea of a character who can do a little bit of everything.

it often depends on your class pick and profs you pick. herbal, mining and skinning are all excellent profs to make passive income while levelling whereas picking something like tailoring+echanting will take some of your cloth usage away from bandages. i generally keep 1 or 2 stacks of bandages and craft all my cloth into excess and sell it. low level disenchants are also almost always less valuable than just vendoring the boe itself
as for classes:
hunter
>dont buy any tracking, any aspects apart from hawk, any pet upgrades apart from stamina/growl/armor or any traps apart from freezing
>get a pet that eats fish from fishing like a bear or cat to save money on buying extra food
>skin constantly and vendor the leather
mage
>aoe farm, aoe farm, aoe farm
>never have to buy food or drink
warlock
>never really need to buy food because of siphon life + vw to tank all damage
rogue
>pickpocket, pickpocket, pickpocket
and then theres always the niche meta shit like selling quest rewards that would be an upgrade but not a significant upgrade

like you said, don't buy every skill. then throw in herbalism or something to make some cash as you level. herbalism is the cheat code because you can get herbs people will want for end game consumes at relatively low character levels. gravemoss/fadeleaf/blindweed/firebloom you can pick before 40 easily and make money

By wotlk they at least made sure that each class had valid builds available. No more: "Yeah you can put your talent points into being a caster, but it'll fucking suck, lmao". Personally, I really like the talent choices they introduced I believe at the end of wotlk? It had it's own drawbacks and starting problems, but at least having shit like: "Do you want a short & strong movement buff, or a longer but weaker movement buff?" is a valid choice.

Sounds more like Mists talent system, are you confusing the two? WotLK had the biggest classic talent trees, Cataclysm introduced hard selecting a specialization at lv10 with shorter talent trees (you couldn't spend talent points in other trees till you maxed the one for your spec, so no actual hybrid builds like TBC/WotLK), MOP dumbed everything down to that "pick 1 out of 3 options every 15 levels" style of talents.

Yeah I might have confused my timeline as to when they introduced the 3 choice system. For some reason my brain told me that this was introduced at the end of WotlK, but yeah, clearly Cataclym afterwards still had talent trees. My bad.

Basically, back in the early 2000s as the game was being developed, the human areas were designed first as the game's vertical slice. This gave them more time in the oven allowing for more iteration and refining of their style and questlines.

That would have been stupid since it would have fucked up the Horde vs Alliance dynamic which was a large part of the game's success at the start.
If you find someone so devoted to WoW they got a tattoo there's a pretty good chance it'll be the Horde or Alliance symbol. Probably the most often repeated WoW phrase isn't "you are not prepared" or "LEEROY JENKINS!" but simply "FOR THE HORDE".
