Cuz age ratings in Japan. Even just a simple romance subplot can affect age ratings. It's why games aiming for a higher rating, such as Xenoblade, do not shy away from it. Zelda is rated 12+ in Japan, while Xenoblade Chronicles is rated 15+ (with exception of the 1st game which is also rated 12+).

You can see the same in gachas: Genshin Impact which aims for a lower age rating has all characters friendzone you, while in ZZZ which aims for a higher rating has them basically crush on you hard.

I was able to 100% Age of Calamity without any issue, I actually really enjoyed that one. Didn't do the DLC thoughbeit because it took forever for it to come out.
