There are Gen X who still play video games but Gen Xers see people who play video games past their 20s as weird. Millennials are the first generation to normalize adult gaming. I think Gen Xers are the last generation where being a “gamer” is an actually an lifestyle and not just a hobby for this reason.

My experience growing up as a millennial was that gaming past the early teens was considered lame, nerdy and a waste of time. By high school I was the only gamer in my extended friend group/social circle (200+ people) and occasionally people would poke fun at me because of it. The average millennial was doing sports, driving cars/drag racing (huge fad due to fast and furious), partying, drinking/smoking weed, skating, clubbing, studying (the few who were serious about their future). Gaming was a very niche hobby. It became more popular with millennials as they aged out and became too lazy to go out. You might not get mocked for it anymore by other millennial men, but it's not exactly considered to be a respectable hobby, and with women it's still a total turn-off.
