I think that's mostly a meme but I like to believe that because it made him an interesting character, it was good lore. It also kinda made sense to me that the Final Fight characters would be crazy strong since they fight multiple SF level characters at the same time and win. Like Cody or Guy will fight Hugo and Poison and a dozen other fuckers at the same time and win.
