Tangentially related but I was surprised to learn phats are only about $1500 real world? I'd thought it would be a lot more by now. Makes me feel better about selling before I quit.

It just goes to show how much nostalgia can fuck up your life and taste. I wasted my teen years playing this shit and I'm nostalgic for it too BUT I rather relive it in my memories than play it.

Is Runscape or OSRS worth playing as a complete beginner? I need a time sink game for my free time but I feel like with most MMOs it's too late for new players to get the full experience without being overwhelmed.

Use the vanilla client for OSRS.
While RS3 has an immense amount of quests and content in general.

both are good
RS3 is easier as a beginner IF you can handle the barrage of UI interfaces. you can look up other players or spend a few minutes in the settings moving them all around to get what you like. but the game is usually pretty empty, its doing better now because of leagues and the removal of MTX coming about, and the G.E and economy is in an infinitely better place. it has more skills and bosses require a bit more thought in later levels and the combat as more depth. But the combat is also incredibly polarizing at first and you will have no idea what the fuck is going on.
OSRS is nice because it is populated, players wont talk to you since they're all in discord or bots. OSRS is mostly bots or worse venezuelans. and sailing has an influx of players too
but its much more casualized and every player uses addons that practically play the game for them

dont listen to this guy if ur really gonna get into rs osrs is ur only option. rs3 has been running on a skeleton crew for essentially a decade
