The first 2 games were forgettable/weak without the twist. Arguments can be made about the Hex overall, but I don't really care at the moment.
Inscryption, or more specifically Sacrifices Must be Made, got people's attention real fast and stood strong on its own as a Roguelite Deckbuilder with a strict theoretical endpoint, cause it's narrative driven rather than RNG driven.
So people expected him to do something different.
Overall, I still think Inscryption is good, it just could've been way, way better.
