Who is the most overrated, overly worshipped game developer and why is it Sakurai? His cult of personality is a meme and wasn’t even really a thing until third world ESLs heard about him during COVID when Ultimate came out

Not with those awful fucking controls, it's not.

Mashed Potato sammerguy is quite literally one of the few examples I can point to of an actual "Nintendo" guy who actually put out good games.
Worst I can complain about is Smash "Ultimate" bringing some garbage back from Melee like the single airdodge and removing windboxes because of competitive players getting clowned on by game and watch down tilt.

You kidding me? Back in the early 2000s it was one of the most popular multiplayer games still, and most people didn't know how to wavedash or what an L-cancel was. It was always considered legendary by both casual and hardcore players. People would've remembered Melee no matter what.

Even if the community had died off, it would've been remembered fondly the same way Goldeneye is.

sakurai is not overrated, i would argue he is one of the best directors at nintendo putting out games that aren't over in 4 hours and have something to keep people beyond a mental age of the same value engaged.

now overrated and completely undeserving of acclaim, that's kojima. he actively dislikes the medium in which he works, choosing instead to celebrate cinema, however he is such a hack film director that he has to take his shitty skills into games where the standard for something cinematic is leagues lower from decades of abysmal cinematic output from others.
