Don't forget none of that can truly mean anything to Gordon. He can watch humanity fall, struggle and even succeed, he can kick ass – as he does – and bring hope, but at the back of his mind, he's always aware that all of it, including his own presence there, is in the hands of an otherwordly, inhuman something. Gordon's not there to help humanity win, hell, he'll likely not even be around long enough to get to see them win. Brought in and out, just long enough to nudge things in a direction desirable to someone no-one he knows can even begin to comprehend – an eternal passenger, watching worlds and eras fly by outside the train's window.
Well, at least until the start of Ep 1. But would you take your chances with a bunch of vorts against G's employers? Any way it goes, he'll be back in their care soon enough.
