>after years of having it on my backlog I finally play it and realize that the ending is no stranger than something you'd get from an Agatha Christie novel
Why did 2017-/v/ react so badly to this game's ending?
I feel like the ending would be way better received in our current post-Danganronpa V3 and Zero Time Dilemma /v/.
Those games marked a paradigm shift in what is considered a REAL shitty ending.
Can't wait for Depth Loop next year, hope we get an english translation on release

If you like multi-mystery route and sci-adv novels you probably should. The first ending barely counts as a prologue as you don't even get to see the protagonist in action.

The problem with RL's endings comes down to two layers
>One of course is explaining the mystery and mysticism aspects as all just smoke and mirrors, no matter how absurd or improbable it would be. Sometimes the better writing is just saying "Shit's magic, yo".
>The other comes from the fact that mysticism DOES exist, with the protagonist having the explicit power to make the magic mundane. Their attempts to connect it to Death Match Love Comedy does feel incredibly shoehorned and compromises what made Raging Loop unique and magical. And...you know...not having DMLC for that full context of Super Special Abilities.

The "Agatha Christie" view is something I haven't considered and KINDA makes me appreciate the ending diatribe a bit more, but it doesn't help the secret notes' content. It really is the cherry on top to a very weak moment.

>>725599652
Second greentext was also supposed to be spoilered. Oops.
>>725599094
Yeah, excuse RL's slow start. It is actually trying to set things up and works better as the answer to the obvious: "What if I just don't play the murder game! HMMMMMMMMMMMMM!?". It really is just the prologue, though the game's title should really have clued you in on the LOOPING aspect here...
Anonymous No.725600570 [Report]

Oh yeah... What you said in your second greentext line made me curious. I guess Meiko is from DMLC?
I just went on VNDB and saw what character she is from that novel, hope I didn't spoil myself too badly, tho I guess I could infer that character is her based on hair and eye color.
Anonymous No.725601067 [Report] >>725602614
>>725599652
I like that aspect of it though, not to mention it wasn't ALL like that, there's no way you can smoke and mirrors time looping. I thought it was a cool mix and it was interesting what was real magic and what wasn't. Though I gotta admit regarding the rabid dogs and especially the old man being the giant wolf that kills them if they stay alive long enough came out as pretty shaky explanation

I disliked the secret notes for that too though. It really kinda ruined it. It's basically the very last thing in the game though. I mentally ignore

Yeah, I really can't buy it that during the hundreds of loops that Haruaki and Chiemi went through trying crazy shit they didn't get to beat the old man even once, the guy is 95 years old for fucks sake.

Huh. Anyway, people have gone over a lot of what I hated about it, but one thing I didn't understand and still don't is why did spider chick have to wait in the village for a year before the next game was hosted when the entire game wasn't supernatural in the slightest and she had the clan under her thumb so she could've just forced them to host it? I don't know if this is something that was lost in translation or if I missed something but it's still a total mystery to me.

The game itself might not be supernatural but the circumstances that allow it to occur without issues are.
She really doesn't have that much power. Certainly not enough to force them to start it outside of the "natural" circumstances.

I'm aware that there was tons of supernatural stuff going on, but I'm talking about how the werewolf game itself was entirely manmade and no aspect of it required supernatural elements or even a specific time.
>She really doesn't have that much power
Really? I thought she talked about having them under her thumb or something like that, but I beat it 5 or so years ago so maybe I'm misremembering.
>Certainly not enough to force them to start it outside of the "natural" circumstances.
Speaking of, was there ever a proper reason given as to why it was held this time? I vaguely recall the previous head wondering why the hell the current head was doing that and I don't remember any reason being given.

Even ignoring V3's shitty meta commentary, its ending remains far more dissonant with the rest of the game and the story hints you've followed up to that point than Raging Loop's is. I thought people hated Raging Loop precisely because its ending diverged so wildly from the rest of the game. It makes no sense for you to praise V3 for pulling that same stunt while shitting on Raging Loop's.

And for the record I don't really care if it's true or not because the end result is the exact same. What if the weatherman that you see on TV is actually a druid that's making it rain tomorrow instead of predicting it? Does it matter if it just means that it's going to rain either way?

Near the ending when Rikako reveals she's the big bad trying to summon the monster to crush Japan, she reminds Haruaki that in one of the loops he made a promise to her, saying that she could ask "Haruaki Fusaishi" whatever she wanted and in turn he could do the same for "Rikako Uematsu". The twist is that Haruaki isn't even his name and he's been lying about it all along. We never get to know what his actual name is. Also there were hints all over the story that Haruaki wasn't even his name, when he introduced himself he did the whole "Etoo... Ummm..." thing he does whenever he's about to tell a lie.

It was ok, but if you're not into that I would just go for the alternate endings.

Raging Loop's ending is fine, it's just that fine is such a step down from the midgame highs.

Probably would've been better if it the plan wasn't so slapped together. After hundreds of loops, fair amount just spent fucking around, you'd think the lead dude would know that dumb village inside and out and wouldn't have to gamble on timing at all.
