Honestly I loved the game and I'm not even sure you'd be missing out on much doing that. NPCs usually just have hints or are set dressing; not talking/looking/touching them is just missing some jabbering. If he was crying about not knowing what to do afterwards though I'd probably have called him a retard.

That's literally what he was doing.
He was just completely ignoring the narrative (which was really the main appeal of the game, being a glorified walking simulator) out of pure spite and then getting lost and sucking ass at the actual gameplay parts, shallow as it may be.
It was just a shitshow from all sides with the dev and players who genuinely enjoy the game without being autistic caught in the middle.
