As for hosting all you need is peaker, item multiplier, and luggage items to turn off chain launchers. Just avoid unlimited every lobby I’m in that uses it has desync issues.

trees are really helpful for skipping large parts of it since theres only spiders there; but on higher ascents or in big lobbies you dont really have the stamina for it usually (big lobbies also make it way harder to focus on everything like spiders or beetles)

I don't think I've ever seen anyone explicitly say this, but the wind on Roots is my favorite of all the "weather" hazards in Peak. It can kill you if it catches you at a bad time like the rest, but you can also use it to your advantage not only to get past the spore clouds but to also make jumps that are normally impossible. There really isn't enough in the game that you should fear but you can also take advantage of.

The biome feels a bit schitzophrenic to me. It's a biome that punishes you for not moving but it also wants you to pay a lot of attention to your environment. You have to be on the move to avoid zombies and beetles. You have to move through spore clouds. The wind PHYSICALLY moves you. All the while the game expects you to keep track of spore mines, bombs, and spiders.
This is all in contrast to Tropics which only expects you to pay careful attention to your surroundings before making any move. The biome isn't actively "attacking" you. Whenever something bad happens, it's YOU who fucked up. Roots feels like the complete opposite while still maintaining all the hazards from Tropics and more.
All in all, I do like the biome but I feel like it's trying to do too much at the same time. It's trying to be every biome at once.

I get what you mean, but that's precisely why I like it. It's overwhelming and awful for anyone who's new at the game, but for someone who's played the game to death it's a welcome addition that throws a bunch of new mechanics for you to learn. It's made me think that the game needs proper difficulty settings so that some parts of it are totally unavailable to new players so they aren't put off by how overly complex it is for just the 2nd level.

I agree, I've been saying that it's the only biome that feels like it's actively out to get you, and there's just too much shit going on at any given moment. In the rest of the game you can fuck up, but here you can fuck up while the map itself is doing the utmost to fuck you up at every turn. Not even Alpine's blizzards, Mesa's tornadoes, or Caldera's flames feel nearly as hostile and aggressive.
I kind of hate it because of how different it is from the rest of the game. Take me back to tropics.

I was playing a solo run on peak level just for a bit of comfy. Blitzed shore, got halfway through roots and had exactly that happen. There was no seeing it, and when you're solo its a death sentence.

I assume luggage items is out of date because it modifies spawn values of specific things, won't know about the new things, and the rescue hook is now actually in the game but the other mod hasn't been updated since I think before mesa
