It's an idle game where your character auto-farms on your phone. It's pretty good for what it is, but some people consider it far too leaden with "required" P2W mechanics despite literally all of them just being "pay to progress faster".
It uses tons of the OSMS locations but has modern-Maplestory skills for your characters, which you can somewhat control if you want to.
There are bosses, guilds, and PQs as well but ultimately it's just a very fancy screen saver like all idle games, but this one has Maplestory BGM and SFX.

It doesn't need to be active to maintain progression, but it does slow down rates slightly and you don't get some things. For instance, the way to get equipment in this game is to summon elite mobs using currency you can get from killing regular mobs, questing, and doing dungeons.
If you're offline, you'll still garner XP and items and some of this elite mob currency, but you won't actually receive the real drops these monsters give leaving you with less than if you were online.
There's also an in-between option with "Sleep Mode" that keeps you online but darkens your screen and plays a little animation similar to a screen saver so you receive monster drops.

You don't need to keep the app open at all for progression. Some things are faster if you're actively playing, but your character keeps playing regardless of you logging in or not.

Will MS Classic have p2w? Like in any form? Not just HP Washing but also things like gacha, boost scrolls, pets auto looting for you, etc.

I want to say that MS2's western release showed that they are ok with removing p2w elements from their games, but that game fucking died so maybe they'll juice up the p2w like crazy instead. Maybe instead of paid items expiring in 90 days it'll be 30 instead.

There is no reason why they shouldn't include Resistance classes at some point, or even 5th job done in an old school way without the matrix shit. One of the biggest problems with old maplestory is the lack of things to do after 4th job, so they need to find ways to make the game interesting.

No further than Pirates and maybe Dual Blade since they were given a bad reputation due to being released alongside potentials should be brought back. Aside from mages, every class in OSMS has an unique weapon, even if both pages and fighters can use swords they still have their own unique options, meanwhile Resistance classes just reuse another classes' weapons, Wild Hunter using Crossbowman's crossbows and Mechanic using Guslinger's guns.

Yep, a lot of memories on this guy. I only remember getting him to level 93 or thereabouts leading up to the big bang, and I'm not sure how he got to level 114, though I do know this account got hacked at some point after I quit.

Remember finding out at around level 30 that bandits weren't actually supposed to put points in STR, and the guy at the brown teddy map recommended I reset. I decided fuck that, I'm going all the way, before learning that there actually are str daggers for bandit, and they had higher attack than non str daggers. I used that knowledge to cope hard throughout my journey for my damage deficiency.
Speaking of brown teddies, it was the maplestory 2nd anniversary, and there were cake monsters everywhere. That shit was pretty cash.

If you're new and don't mind modern Maplestory, today is actually the best time to get into the game.
There are two types of worlds you can go into:
>Interactive World
This world is what most people who played Maplestory back in the day grew up with -- trading is available between players resulting in a merchanting community. You can also trade equips between your own characters.
>Heroic World
This world prevents the player from trading anything, even between characters, resulting in requiring the player to hunt for their own equips. To compensate for the lack of trading, you get massively boosted drop and meso rates and get exponentially more meso from bossing, as mesos are now purely a resource. It's where almost all of the players in Maplestory Global play due to things like potential cubes and such being purchasable with mesos.

The Challenger World going on is meant to massively jump-start new players.
For reference, Maplestory has a system where the first 32 or so characters have their levels added up to grand you power, called your Legion.
Someone who has 9500 legion has basically every job in the game to at least level 210 and gives every single character on your account in that world massive buffs.
The Challenger World gives you 20 potions that each level a character to level 200, meaning you immediately give yourself 4000 legion jumpstarting a new account insanely fast.
It's objectively the best time to begin for new players interested since the Challenger World evens the playing field for everybody in the game for its event.

It's funny watching modern MS players with their crabs-in-a-bucket mentality over Classic world. They can't fathom being so limited in choice that they keep trying to infect it with modern shit. Like that one (or two) retard(s) who keep insisting on adding Resistance to Classic. Fucking lmao. I got to level 145 before Big bang, so I had like 2-3 years of playtime on this character only.
