I dunno about other countries but I was curious about Australia's one.
Timeline was a report into "Is social media and porn rotting the minds of children" was commissioned years ago.
The answer the report found was "yes it is" then parliament voted to do something about it using the report as evidence.
Bipartisan support to do something about it.
Fast forward and they then vote to do age verification and social media ban by the end of 2025 and it passes.
As shifty as it seems at least in this case it seems pretty legit, why wouldn't they have voted to do this? They're old politicians they don't understand or care about the security risk and to be fair it is actually rotting children's brains.
Even if you were to completely remove the conspiracy control angle I think this would still have been voted in.
