>>725698143 (OP)
Someone in another thread mentioned the possibility that the steam box and 6th gen xbox are actually the same thing. MS already said you'll be able to run steam on their new xbox. And the aesthetic matches the xbox's styling perfectly.
That longshot theory is an interesting one. Unlikely, but you could also see it being possible based on everything we know. Such as Xbox products being removed from shelves and production on Xbox series consoles being stopped. We've been assuming the Gen6 xbox was a long way off and Xbox was ducking out of the current gen, but no one has every actually SAID that officially. Microsoft's apparent abandonment of the Xbox could possibly be an unexpected shift of focus to this endeavor. It's a fun thought.

I don't have much use for one since I have a real PC anyway but it is nice to have a single open spec devs can target now, if this thing does well enough that a not insignificant fraction of the AAA install base is trying to use them that would go a long way to forcing devs to optimize.

You can. You can even turn on the PC using a magic packet over a network (e.g., opening the Plex app on your TV can wake up your media server). Simply waking one up with a bluetooth device is actually a default settings, I'm pretty sure. Might have to enable it in the BIOS, though. PCs are very flexible. There's always a way.

Stay mad, chuds. With a modern gen 8gb card I run all new games at high settings at 60fps with almost no issues that can't be solved by careful tweaking of the settings.
People who buy beyond 8gb fall into two categories: retards, and power gamers. The retards make up the overwhelming majority, driven by ignorance and a blind "bigger number is better" philosophy. The power gamers on the other hand are the true tech nerds who have specific plans to utilize the extra power to its utmost maximum. Despite possessing +8gb of VRAM, the retards (You)) will almost never utilize past 8gb of it.
It's deeply pathetic to see retards retarding out, having imaginary dickwaving contests and pretending they know more than a billionaire of a tech company and his team of actual engineers.

or you just dial down the settings. 1080p medium is perfectly fine. its really all you ll ever need. and if a game refuses to be optimized, then dont play it. if you always immediately run to newegg whenever some game needs more powerful hardware for some reason, then the industry will use that against you and just crank the minimum specs ever higher in some sort of death spiral of increasing hardware specs until you are out of money. the winning move on the gamers side here would be to boycott unoptmized games and also boycott expensive gaming hardware. if everyone has a 4060, they will shoot themselves in the foot when they release games made for a 4080.

True. I mean when I borrowed my friends PS5 to play Demons Souls (have no idea what else its good for?) Im pretty sure it ran upscaling from 1080p or 720p in 60fps mode.
Even though I have a direct HDMI running from my PC to TV turning it on and configuring the screen every time is still a real hassle. Streaming from steam to shield is buggy and unreliable, plus limited to no HDR and 1440p since I dont have a high end monitor. So I've considered getting a used console many times but it always seemed like a waste and overpaying for extremely old hardware with extremely expensive games. Plus Sony and Microsoft pretend my country doesnt exist so no Xbox or PSN account and multilayer for me.
I've considered getting a Steam Deck just because I can turn it on and instantly play my game in seconds, so I can finally start finishing some games from my library. But its really cumbersome and Deck2 will probably be around the corner soon.
So if this thing is good enough to play Stellar Blade or even Deth Stranding on reasonable settings and around $500 I might consider it, plus my gfs can play on the couch while im busy working or wasting a 4080S to grind Nikke. Or for example my sister in law is in college and her laptop can barely manage 2d indies. I would get her a deck(2) or this and a monitor so she can play most of our shared library. Although i feel it will be closer to $700 while they claim it "will cost like an entry level PC"

The games I actually played after purchasing a 4080s are:
>81% nikke
>5% vr sims
>5% silksong
>5% civ and random indie games we try with friends for fun
>4% stellar blade
Do i really need a 4080s for all of this?

Yes he did and it helped create the most convenient marketplace for digital games with the best prices. Gabes DRM is just a formality since it is patched out automatically by release group CICD bots on day I. Heck you can slap a nosteam dll in any game yourself IIRC and some games in steam dont even actually have drm like the first KSP, all of which is great for game preservation.

No.725733880
[Report]
The people who play on console generally want stuff that "just works" and trying to go for something really cheap isn't going to be that.
One of the advantages with having good hardware on PC is that it simply "just works" in the sense that you will not really have to tweak settings typically. You can just set everything on max and still have a good framerate (by good i mean well over 100fps).
And if you do need a higher framerate you can simply enable DLSS if the game supports that and you have an nvidia card.
Having plenty of ram (both DDR5 and vram) means not having to worry about running out of it due to some setting being too demanding. Having just say 8GiB of vram is not going to be a good experience since then you will often have to tweak some settings to make the game fit inside that small vram budget (One of the reasons why console players shouldn't consider the new steam box).
One of the reasons i went with a 3090 3 years ago was because i didn't want to have to worry about running out of vram and it has worked fine. I still don't need to upgrade any time soon and i tend to play games that are not overly demanding anyway.
Pushing for high framerates (which is one of the big advantages you can still get via PC gaming) does make things a lot hardware so you actually wouldn't recommend getting a CPU like the r5 5600 since that isn't going to be able to properly deliver those high framerates. High framerates also mean you need a lot more in terms of the GPU since you need significantly more than double the graphics processing power to get double the framerate.
Another problem with going for cheap hardware is that you end up with something that have limited upgrade options later. The AM4 platform that does let you get into PC gaming for cheap is dead now while AM5 is expected to get at least 1 more generation of CPUs.
