I want to shill this game but I can't find the 2000s version with the ship designer and multiple factions anymore, only the DOS version and a new mobile one with less content and no ship designer. The forums where people put their modded ships are long-dead too, which is sad.
It's a shame because it's a really neat take on turn-based that I haven't really seen anywhere else, you set a target direction+thrust for your ship and assign missiles to launch for the next five seconds.

Technically an Amiga game first, but I had the DOS version and I still love it even though the FPS is pretty bad. Also Speedball 2. Once I learned you could injure players I got REALLY good at mauling opponents instead of going for score.

Just finished Jagged Alliance Deadly Games a while back, still holds up like the first game other than the visible game area being annoyingly small. Gotta admit I disabled the time limits after one failed playthrough though. Tarballs' briefings were a definite highlight.

You didn't get as close as you thought. I occasionally returned to try again for 25 years before I finally reached the ending. The game will eventually reveal that you need to have collected every single star which you probably thought to be completely irrelevant. If you manage that, the final platforming challenge that the game throws at you will probably take at least 5 lives to get through on your first try.

I remember only liking the first level.
And hating that you got part of a superweapon to collect that made the game vaguely fun to play, but you would lose all of them on death.
