Never understood VR, just sit in front of the screen, you get the same experience without paying for VR.

That makes me worried about the controller's input delay if anything.

You have to stand and move around and play something good like Superhot or Alyx to get the full VR experience, it's nothing like sitting in front of a screen at all.

Genuinely curious how much Valve's saving by not bothering with a color passthrough camera. Even the most budget ass cellphones have passable camera nowadays.

it wouldnt be the controller, it would be the video streaming latency, which they said at the dongle, is like 6ms+system latency. everyone so far said the controller tracking feels fine

I think it's more them "safety proofing" it because they probably think retards can't tell the difference between "VR reality" and actual reality unless it's obviously black and white.

Yeah, and it cost them having to install a fifth camera to do so with the task of strictly just being for providing colour to overlay on the information the greyscale cameras provide on the passthrough. Battery life is at a premium on these devices.

>vr wirelessly kinda sucks
I cannot go back to wired after getting a solid Quest 2 wireless PCVR setup going. I do not like the weight of a cable on me or worrying about some propriety expensive cable twisting up over the months and dying on me. Haven't touched my Index in forever, I really should have just sold it months before this announcement since the value will be going down now.

>since the value will be going down now

Same boat. It might not crash entirely, since valve's base stations are still considered The Standard and I'm sure some people will prefer the knuckle controllers. Might be able to sell it as a set for a couple hundred for someone looking to get into outside-in VR.
Anonymous No.725724581 [Report] >>725725512
>>725724528
The only thing that'll hold value are the base stations (later models, not the earlier ones that are all prone to dying) and the Knuckles, and that's solely due to Beyond 2.
Anonymous No.725724691 [Report] >>725724991

well the video will allways have compression and there will all ways be latency,
so people just end up using a wire unless you are running things off the head set its self, but then you get phone game quality, which kinda ruins it
Anonymous No.725724991 [Report]
>>725724691
I run my Quest 2 at 150mbit w/ VD's h265 option, and I don't notice the compression unless I'm doing some stress test that intentionally fucks with video encoding, which I never see during games. Frame's foveated streaming will make it even less of a non-issue if it works as well as they claim.

Yeah. I do have a BSB2 on order a few months out. I'm 75-25 on whether I'd want to cancel it at this point. The cost isn't a huge concern for me, but the convenience of an inside-out set might trump the quality improvements and I'd rather not waste money on something that'll gather dust.

Wrong, fake, gay
I can barely notice the latency or video encoding running on my Pico 4, i imagine the Frame with AV1 and foveation using eye tracking will be even better for maintaining perceptual image quality

That said i don't see anything good enough to make me want to upgrade

There's hundreds of Alyx mods on the workshop, friend. Some of them are even not shit. (Played Post-Human last night. Good stuff.)
Anonymous No.725728149 [Report] >>725730758
Do people actually still care about VR? I cannot name more than 5 games off the top of my head that are VR exclusive or designed with it in mind, and half of them aren't worth investing into.
Why does Valve keep trying to promote the technology if they cannot even be bothered to make games for it or help creators do it? Source 2 has been around almost 10 years and it hasn't seen anything worthwhile besides CS2 and Alyx (Deadlock is a pre-release still)
You think if HL3 will be announced as a VR exclusive people will go apeshit

though I'm really considering if I should gift my quest 3 to my brother and get this one. we mostly play vtol vr and other flight sims together plus clayhunt vr and demeo. The Q3 is still a bit too cumbersome for me to use regularly and I can never make my wifi good enough to go wireless (plus fuck meta).
But its so easy to pirate quest games its not even funny and this one looks like it lacks passthrough.

its sometimes useful to answer the phone or answer something on PC half blind without messing with the clunky headset that I finally managed to make sit just right.
I assumed the lack of brightness was a problem on OLED TVs around 5 years ago with CX (which I bough for a really good discount but never managed to upgrade because a new one costs an arm and a leg) and was supposed to be solved by now?

how bad is it? my brother has like -6 on both eyes with stigmatata. I am lucky to have between pl/pl/-0.25/pl (repeated measurements) on both eyes but with -2 and -1 stigmata and for both of us contacts were a godsend for vr and clay shooting. Without contacts all headsets looked like there was a smudge on my left eye no matter what I do
