Coupe makes more sense in the story. More threatening as a villain, better fight, and has more themes of actually saving her because Rob & Blazer dive down to stop her falling to her death, then after saying she believes she doesn’t have friends after all is bright back to the good side because her friends pull her back, leaving her stunned but happy.

Sonar is the one in real life that makes sense to fire. He’s a slacker who gets high on the job, and his stats being ever changing makes him less reliable than Coupe, whose stat spread also pairs well with Punch Up, whilst Mal is a master of none and is better used patching the rest of the team back up rather than doing sync pair missions.

If you want the min-max answer, kick Sonar and give Coupe the INT. She's just better than he is, simple as. Coupe INT/MOB/STR and Punch Up CHA/VIG/STR synergy will wreck any mission together, except for the "no more than X combat" ones. Sonar and Malevola synergy isn't as good because Sonar is always swapping back and forth so you can't mirror them as easily. You've already got Prism for CHA, or Waterboy for INT (later on), or if you need more CHA/INT you can build Malevola that way too. Malevola works better with Waterboy though, you can make her CHA/VIG/MOB and Waterboy INT/VIG/MOB for example to create a reliable low combat duo whenever needed. The only time Sonar is decent is if you've got Phenomaman on the team, because you might actually need the extra INT, but even then you could just give Coupe the INT as well. - For story though? It's a 50/50. Sonar feels like a better villain if you're not planning on forgiving him, but Coupe feels like a better villain if you're planning on forgiving her.

It's not really explained well in the game itself but basically Robert II screwed him over by stringing him along to build the Astral Pulse and then not holding up his end of the deal (building Shroud a mecha of his own).
In the comics (which are pretty meh but considered canon) he beats the shit out of Shroud when he tried to challenge him, as a sort of twisted test of bravery. Shroud just came back and shot him

This makes sense if you assume shrouds implants do more than just enhance his minions. He could have surveillance capabilities through the implants or exert some level of control.
This is supported by hive-mindish actions in the final fight, toxic knowing Shroud is about to reveal himself and collective vomiting when he fails the coin flip.
Viz specifically tell Roberts the implants stopped working after she left which I thought was her way of telling Robert she didn't benefit from her deal, but it might also be the stories way of making her a passive agent.
It's pretty convoluted in any case and could have been handled better for sure.
That said, still enjoyed the final episodes and will likely do an opposite choice playthrough just to compare notes.

There's 5 writers btw. My theory is that the plot outline was worked out and they had to follow it even though it sucked. If they had more time or money they may have been able to toss out some assets and rework some scenes, but they didn't have all the time in the world, so a good core writing team probably had to follow through with a dumb plot either rushed together by one of them or demanded by a producer. Certainly not a BIG one... it didn't like play dramatic music or zoom in on his face. It was surprising for Robert, not us. I think it's fine for the moment to exist between the two of them that the player isn't fully in synch with.

I personally liked having never seen him use superspeed before the moment he does, since to some degree one kind of is uncertain if he actually can do it, so seeing it for the first time there adds a lot of drama.

It's a pretty big plot hole because they try to lampshade it by saying Chase could catch Beef, but ignore the fact he could probably still rescue him.

The only argument against being able to rescue him I can think of is the concern that Chase's speed and the resulting force of the rescue would kill Beef. It's established in one of the comics (specifically the penultimate page of Get Up) that Chase disolcated a younger Robert's arm when he rescued him from the Mecha Man suit. If he could discolate a child's arm, he might end up breaking Beef's neck or spine.

I KIND of got around this by only making them all rounders by making sure everyone had at least a 3 in every stat. After they were rounded out, they had their own A or B specializations.

The only exceptions were Sonar and Waterboy who both had their intelligence maxed out. Sonar did because that would just switch everytime he transformed and Waterboy did because I just thought it was the most thematically appropriate.

In the end I still failed the final Dispatch. Won't do that again. But for the rest of the game it seemed to really work.
