Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Apparently there's a way to anonymously track CD keys so blitzbro could implement a simple points system so we can filter them out, but every time the conversation came up the quitters threw a hissy fit, and most people here are fucking doormats and give in to the whiners.
So yeah, quite normal. Other communities have strict vetoing systems and don't have this issue. But there you have to deal with other things, like massive Discord drama every now and then, people joining games just to suicide attack you and ruin your game due to some perceived slight in a past game, etc.

I joined here the week before Dom4 dropped and it's been a constant since then. That's 12 years.
The only reason it hasn't happened is that every time we get the same few loud faggots screaming about turning /domg/ into Discord drama and metagaming, and then the bulk of the community tries to shrug (they can't, due to the lack of a spine) and agree that it'd be better not to turn into a metagaming community. Even though Blitzbro did say at some point that it'd be possible to create a hidden point list, so we could filter chainstalers without losing any anonymity.
And here we are.

joined my first dom6 mp game using mapnuke and gotta say i like this style of gen way more than the default mapgen.
it's akin to hellblazers civ 5 mapscript to actually make a significantly more balanced pangaea game.

LA R'Lyeh gets freespawn which also costs maintenance, so you need to suicide it constantly to not go bankrupt. And a lot of it is also aquatic only so you also need to craft water bubbles to get it on land after you've conquered the water bowl.

You cannot. What you're thinking of is grand communicant which simply lets you add 1 for each communicant to the overcast of globals/dispels. It doesn't let you boost up into a ritual you can't cast like a communion does for combat magic.

You either prepare your pretender for it or climb paths with boosters and summons.
It's a good idea to get acquainted with https://illwiki.com/dom5/dom6/magic-access and at least have a general idea of what rituals you want to cast and how to reach them when you create your tendie.
But obviously, you also need to balance that aspect with scales, bless, and actually surviving past turn 20.

Turn 8 is winding down in Final_ReveLAtion, and it's looking like the percentage of AI or staling players is increasing to a cool 19%!

MA Abysia is a very easy nation to learn due to recruit anywhere holy 3s and one of the simplest/most versatile magecores in the game. I can send a bless idea that will carry you as well. EA is stronger on paper but weaker for the era that its in, since EA has a lot of giant fire resistant rapists who outsize your fire resistant bigger lava warriors. Blood stuff with Abysia is also fairly easy to learn since they aren't reliant on it until later, just pump out some apprentices and give them sanguine dousing rods.

I've been excited to explore ethereal crushers as an early Kailasa strategy this game.
I lost this battle due to a PD dump and evocations (I have no resists) and simply having a small army, but the Crushers performed pretty well on their own. They survived a long time isolated at the front, tanking Rus's army, and most of them only died to to their leadership routing
Not sure that it's actually much better than point buffing sacreds instead but it might be decent...

Give me some credit here - I shifted my sacreds to the flanks instead of having them at the center to draw away your kickmeisters, letting the crushers get caught up on the PD spam and my tendie while my jizzards fireballed at you. Honestly I was 50/50 on if I'd win or not; my main goal was to kill the crushers and the mages, so I'm moderately satisfied. Pretty neat play on your part.

If you are playing Sloop take the Asura pill. Nigh impossible to kill whether it's 1v1 or 1v1000. Research alt2 and you can comfortably clear indies in your dominion. Research con3 to gear up with 1 eye shield, 1 lead shield, 3 horn helmet, 1 chi shoe and a trinket like burning pearl or ring of the warrior. Ench4 to cloud trapeze. I can't tell if this is honest approval or some kind of vague gay negative implication, but I wouldn't buff Anakites, I think they're a fine sacred as they are. They aren't the retarded hellbless unga bunga they were in 5, which is good. The rest of Ashdod's atrocious roster I already buffed significantly. I think there are a lot of ways you can take it now, imprisoned bless, incarnate bless or even scales, though I think investing to some degree in the sacreds is ideal. The magic weapons alone are good to have.
For the shamblerized Oath-Bound, I've knocked a further point of def off and added a point of enc. So +1 enc, -2 def in stats, -1 def from no broad sword and +5 gold cost, in exchange for +6 damage. In bless points, the reinvig/def/str equivalent is -8 points and +5g cost for +12 points. It doesn't seem like an obviously over the top buff to me at this point.
Vanilla Oath-Bound just don't serve much of a purpose. At least TNN/Eriu (at least in SCBM)'s elves have magic weapons and shields, Na'Ba's are giant, EA Vanheim's are zerkers. Vanilla Oath-Bound are just medium infantry elves on a nation whose best units are high output, high attrition berserkers. Durable line-holders don't synergize with that, and unlike the other elf sacred nations, Vanarus doesn't have mounted/giant out of cap thugs who can also use a bless. The only thug is cap-only, StR and brutally expensive.

Did they make modding stuff any easier? I made a couple shitty mods in the past and I'm kinda thinking I'd like to make some again.

I usually jam the mage directly inside of the unit I want it to buff and that usually works. That said, they prioritize the largest HP per square, so you should keep that in mind - your mage probably went for the archers because they were denser than the larger units you were trying to buff.

The rule of thumb that I use is that you can pull off 2 normal spells (by normal I mean the spell has 100% casting time or less) before your troops start moving. So you have 3-4 spells to cast before the unit moves out of the range of a lot of the buff spells. With flying units you get 2-3 spells off for sure, some flying units take off early but you can't do anything about it. You can also set your mage within the unit but closer to or at the front to aid with the timing, assuming they don't fly of course.

Yeah I hoped to finish off Vanheim with what little I had on hand before counterraiding Sauro but after that catastrophic loss I was doomed.
The mammoths immediately routed and killed a few of my mages, (before they could even point buff mistform and quickness on them) while the rest got mostly done in by friendly arrow fire since I forward positioned them to shock wave.
I should have cast personal air shield instead of relying on AoE version, but even with smarter scripting death weapons archers were probably not the greatest bless to go for when I mostly used eagle king thugs and shock wavers.

If you are playing with full school research on you might find a use for it if you have some other reason to go to Conj 9, if its individual conj 9 there is no reason to ever research that spell. They are an army clearer which unlocks pretty far after army clearers really like, matter. You could summon them, if you had conj 9 and weren't using the individual capstone spells rule, but they don't serve much of a purpose compared to like, even most conj 8 summons. I would rather have elemental royalty, or a bane lord, or a faerie queen, or even an Ivy King than a Tarrasque, because all of those help you do more than just clear enemies who lack poison res. In singleplayer anything can be made to work, and they're big funny statblobs so thats fine. But in multiplayer its really not great.

This isn't to say you shouldn't bother summoning them, there aren't a ton of great nature summons and if you are all stocked up on nature gems for better spells like Howl and Relief you may as well toss 15 at them. But don't research conj 9 for them. If you want something to throw nature gems at, try Gift of Health, Worms that Walk, even funnier globals like Enchanted Forest or Haunted Forest.

You don't really get a choice. Just try not to blow up your gimp communion. Putting a headband/matrix on an indy N mage and give the slaves personal regen will help a little.

No SCs, only thugs. You have way better SCs already. Due to their low attack and lack of extra attacks you need fire shield and ideally something like brands or a thunder whip. A randoms are strongest (flying shield, personal mistform with an A gem) but they need E gems to cast summon earthpower. E randoms don't need extra gems. A randoms can also cast personal flight and attack rears or assassinate immobiles with smashers.

Your cap has perpetual 3 order so it doesn't matter if you want to focus on sacreds. You only want to build forts in highland and caves for doggos, but dogs are cheap in rp. The only exception is if you want to buy feminie/orionde knights, but why would you do that if you have dogs? Imo if your nation has the capability to go max turmoil you do that since in the long run luck gives you back more in terms of gems and gold and you don't have to waste time managing barb events. You also rely on summons a lot so you don't want to tank magic. Hashmal with a brand and a vine shield can take max pd no problem. You only want troops to siege with this build. Grab a few kings and sages and preach in someone's cap and when you get 1 candle you can solo it with Asura

Their troops are pretty dependable and having strong earth helps them out. Strong, varied summons lets them convert gems into power easily. Your enemies usally are at a disadvantage in caves, and boulder throwers as wall defenders are deadly.

I've been reading a manga recently called Bugle Call that reminds me a lot of Dominions, since it deals with the very specific subject matter of "Wizards interfering with Medieval warfare"

And since your opponent controls the territory outside of your castle he is free to move away from the siege and avoid your siege break + attack combo, or even attack into the army that you are moving onto the castle. I'd usually only use them to win a pivotal fight against an early rush. Otherwise every lesser ele you don't cast now is a regular ele later, and especially vs Therodos that's much better, because the high MR, higher def and double regen make low damage ghosts with half damage vs a MR check on top of half damage to pierce/slash really struggle to wear down the big ones compared to the small ones who take a lot more damage with a lot less regen.

Theres a small handful of monster tendies that can expand without a bless. Drakon, Golden Lion, Earth Serpent and Marverni's Thrice Horned Boar is close too. The only thing that will worry them is huge barbarian stacks, huge heavy cavalry stacks or rare special indie types that tend to come with mages.
Some nations just have awful troops for expanding but scale hard with magic or summons in the midgame. So for them an awake monster to just make sure you expand properly and don't get rushed by a neighbour is a good deal. For example I'd say Bogarus is a nation like that.
Later in the game those tendies usually just become a strong battlemage or a crafter/ritual caster.

I've read Bugle's Call, it's refreshing and underwhelming at the same time. Everyone has way too many SCs and access to Super Battlefield spells, is this sparks or divinitus? Either way, it was pretty cool. But it has that typical Japanese bugman teenager grasping with basics of being a human and the author somehow managed to make it into isekai at the last chapters to dampen the stakes. Impressive.
