I haven't played a Kirby game since I was a kid. Like GameCube and gba era Kirby, but I've been kinda thinking about trying to get back into the series what title would you recommend I try out?

there's a couple of free demo's on switch 1/2 of some of the modern games if you just want to dip your toes in, if you have switch online most of the classic era ones are there, Kirby clash quest deluxe is also free to play but if you'd want to complete the game in anything resembling a reasonable time you'd have to fork over cash (like 60 bucks at most it's very generous but that's not something you should play if you are new)

most people would suggest kirby's adventure though I assume you've played nightmare in dreamland on the GBA and that's basically a remake of adventure

oh you might want to hold off on buying forgotten land if you have switch 2 since it's getting an upgrade pack in august, but you should try the demo of that.

We've actually got an updated starter guide in the OP now for exactly this reason.
For you, I'd recommend the Super Star remake, Return to Dream Land, or maybe Triple Deluxe. Canvas Curse also came out around the same time as the games you've played, so maybe try that out. Or just pick something that looks interesting.

Rainbow Curse is a good game, but its gameplay is definitely more barebones than Canvas Curse, and a lot of people don't like it as much for that reason. The claymation looks really good, though.

About Super Kirby Clash, it's actually really easy to avoid paying, since both the single and multiplayer quests give EXP, and you can do the multiplayer quests on your own.
The games only allow you to spend $30 (Team) and $50 (Super) anyway. I didn't spend nearly that much on Team, and I didn't spend anything on Super.

star allies runs at 30 now without any real bad drops, pretty sure forgotten land does too, so I am wondering if there will be a performance enhancement along side the DLC to make it 60, not sure if anything has been confirmed.

there is footage of people playing star crossed travelers content and it does look very smooth so I'm leaning towards yes but camera footage off of youtube and trailers being cut in certain ways isn't exactly the most reliable source.

elifis is who let leon be able to speak according the figurines, the real mystery is how the vortex to dreamland even opened in the first place, waddle dee's were not there yet and elifis was still contained, elifin wasn't powerful enough to do something that big on his own at that point and was on the run from the beast pack, perhaps something else caused that to happen, the starries could hold the answer, the meteors caused the night sky to appear after all, this just might be me being schitzo but the intro to Kirby 64 had the night sky and shards raining from the sky as well and that was able to create portals much like elifin and the various ancient machines, the game already borrows from 64 already so it isn't too crazy of a theory.

If each region was their own map that we battled for upgrades on, that'd be good.
City trial just needs multiple maps that are about 10x bigger than OG kirby air ride (if there's going to be like 12 to 24 players) and we're good. Engaging is the importance of city trial so it can't be too large, but definitely should be bigger than before for an online mode.

Yeah that'd be a good balance I think, upping from 4 to 24 would need a bit bigger of a play area, but if it gets too big then it wouldn't be as engaging.

in the original air ride, it takes about 30 seconds to a minute to go from one end of the map to another without any power ups/rails (depending on machine) and typically there is going to be stuff to do on the way like engaging in fights, grabbing power ups, etc so that'd add let's say about 30 seconds unless you wanted to really duke it out for longer, so let's be generous and say 2 minutes total (probably less for pro's or people who avoid fights due to low hp)

I'd say a stage should be no longer then 10 minutes to get to one end to the other (that's with minimum stats/power ups mind you) that seems like a good sweet spot for that many players.

Best I can think of is the whole "Star Crossed World" gimmick itself hinging on the Switch 2 being stronger. Seeing as the base game runs at 30, I imagine all the shader fuckery they have going on with all the wavy patterns + loading in brand new chunks of level likely "needed" the new hardware to be done without chugging the game to hell and back.

Given what Nintendo's said about the Switch VS Switch 2 OS, I'm guessing it'd be closer to porting a PC feature to console than just enabling a toggle. Maybe a downgraded backport would be possible? But I can't shake the feeling that it likely has to do with the additional shader fuckery brought on by all the crystals around (dependingon how complex the shaders for them are), the blending between the base level textures and the Star-crossed ones, the additional particles, effects like the small shockwave when you go in and out of the star-crossed zones... A lot of little details that I imagine just end up adding up performance wise, which the Switch 2 can just kind of tank the hit from compared to the original Switch.
