I played back before the first expansion came out. I installed hearthstone two days ago, I've been doing the tutorial stuff, played 5 arenas where I got 5/0 once. But there are so many modes now and even though I get a lot of packs I feel like I have no way to match the decks I am playing against in ranked. I won my first game and the next ones were complete domination where I lost by round 6. Ideally I would play only arena cause it feels the most fair for someone with few cards but the 150 gold fee means I cannot only play arena. I enjoy the solo content but sooner or later that will end - is there a way to get the expansions for playing the game or no? What would you guys suggest for a fairly new player?

you can't really aim for 12 anymore. Half of the most casual shitters are playing baby mode or otherwise can't afford to risk 300 gold on a 0-3. Underground is only the top half or maybe even only the top 1/4th of the best arena players from old arena trying to duke it out. If you're not one of the very top players your hopes of getting 12 are minimal, there's only 1-2 free wins per run now instead of 3-6.

Played over 20 underground matches and never won more than 3, every single match opponents have perfect unbeatable rng for EVERYTHING. I had streaks of bad luck in arena before, but this is ridiculous, I've had a few decent runs 6-7 or even the rare 12 run, this is just insane. I was even mostly playing DK and DH the highest winrate classes with decent decks.

But its complete dogshit that they introduced a harder arena mode where you're guaranteed to average fewer wins longterm but kept the rewards the same average value while also slanting them more towards packs that aren't even useful for playing arena more. Only because top 1k people want to play big brain decks and as such fold to aggro, but the thing that should tell you how stupid the ranking is menag DK not being just as highly rated for being an equally as strong, if not stronger, deck that also has the other guy mulliganing completely wrong. Priest loses the moment it gets it's board cleared while not being nearly as sticky outside of exactly orbital divine shields or having accupunctures + parrots, while DK has burn, tutor for said burn, and board in a box cards that also deal face damage.

Okay I guess I'll explain card advantage since you seem to not understand what it is.
Imagine your opponent has 4 minions on board, smallish ones like 2/2s and 3/3s. If you had only two cards in hand and they were, say, a mid-sized taunt and a removal spell, you might play both the removal on their biggest minion and then play the taunt and they'd trade the rest of their board into your taunt and then play more minions that you have no answer for. Now imagine you had 6 cards in hand and one of those cards was an aoe, it now only costs you 1 card to answer their board. That's what Card Advantage is, when you have more options and can make a more efficient play that allows you to accumulate value or push higher tempo. Card advantage is NOT simply having a whole bunch of cards in hand, if you had 6 cards in hand but they were all small removals you wouldn't have a choice to make a more efficient play that gives you advantage.
