Since it's a digital input, you don't really need notches. You're either activating a switch or you're not.
Do keep in mind it will take a while to get used to stick. When I switched it took me about a month before I was really genuinely comfortable with it. Absolutely worth it though, doesn't give me hand pain like pad does and it's way more fun to use.

At this point I think most of my issues are things I'm kind of aware of and just not working hard enough on. I have a bad habit of autopiloting into bad but easy combos early on and then it takes me forever to relearn the muscle memory for good combos; in the case of Dizzy I was doing 2K>2D>ice spike which is a useless OTG that gives no oki. I switched over to 2K>2D>fish which is what she actually wants to do for oki. I guess I should practice her left/right mix now but I'm not really sure how reliable it is.
Progress is slow but I am making progress. My original plateau was high floor 10 with Giovanna but that was years ago and I've been super rusty.

you can change the gate to a octo gate which will have notches if you want. Square is the standard tho and you just need to have a feel for the cardinals. Octo gates get a little weird because the areas are uneven which I find makes it harder to hit diagonals properly if you go fast.

Actually I just remembered I have a serious problem with hit confirming 2K>2D. On block I want to do chestnut until my opponent has demonstrated they won't let me steal another turn, but on hit I want fish. If they get hit by the 2D after blocking 2K then I end up doing chestnut and giving up oki. Not sure the best solution here, I've never been good at confirming single hits.
Should I just stagger the special cancel? That would make it way easier to contest the chestnut.

it's like driving. it's commonly said that you should always be driving 2 seconds ahead. try to play with the same mentality, especially on offense
if you're anticipating one of two outcomes to an interaction (hitting their block or hitting them) then it's easier to react to either one
familiarity and understanding will refine your expectations. clear expectations will clean up your reactions. set up your training dummy and practice your hit confirms

What happens is that I expect them to block both hits but they end up just blocking the first one for whatever reason. By the time I notice I've already input chestnut.
I imagine this happens a lot less with better players who know they can't jump out of that string, but I'm sure there are still edge cases where it can come up.

it's a lot harder to unstick your brain from a habit than it is to learn something new. push hard in the other direction of expecting that they'll get hit while generally practicing your hit confirms
watching gameplay might help if you know your character well enough. if you can generally expect what the dizzy player is going to do understand the options available to them, you can practice those expectations/reactions without the pressure of piloting your character and performing well

Wallbreaks insn't the problem.
The problem is positive bonus + hkd after wallbreaks is too fucking easy and strong on most characters.
HC and Ino in particular can simply run their offense ad eternam on you and will always get super wallbreak by building shit ton of meter thanks to positive bonus.
This is a thing I've been wondering about for the last 4 years, did ArcSys expected wallbreaks to be this much at the core of strive or did they expected it to be a specific gameplan choice.
Some characters like Ino, Ram orTestament could gain consequent advantage from not breaking the wall as they rely on constant strike/throw high/low and +frames pressure but the advantage given by breaking the wall with a super is so big in comparison not one of them actually would get a better situation from reseting pressure in the corner.
Ram gets both her sword back.
Ino gets meter to convert of anything.
Testament gets stain of nostrovia.
The problem isn't wallbreak, the problem is you HAVE TO break the wall in any possible scenario.
