Here's a tier list, let's talk about how much we hate characters.

Top 5 is in order. WArc is better than pciel i don't care what scrawt says.
Roa is still strong even thought he got nerfed. Vlov suffers SLIGHTLY due to meta changes but all of his stuff is still very effective, just defense is harder now+bad matchups against the top 3 make him less effective than he used to be.
Mario/Mash/Miyako(the M squad) are all equally good. Slight gap between those three and the rest of the tier. The weaker defense of maids hurts them as offense becomes stronger.
I'm not sure if ushi or dan is stronger. They are both fucked up gimmicky characters that will destroy people who aren't prepared for them but have big weaknesses they have to overcome. Dantes is held back by his below average frame data and bad air buttons but is otherwise a pretty solid character, also arc drive memes.

I am EAGERLY awaiting the daemon bride release. They said it will be some time this year and we are more than halfway through, it can't be much longer.

I think the characters are homogenized enough to where there aren't huge gaps between everyone. I think an S tier character warps the game around them and I don't see that about anyone in this game. I don't really know how to feel about Warc but everyone else says she's really good so I'll defer to them. Kouma would probably go down if Scrawt didn't play him.

Nah, it's momentum got severely hamstrung by being non-functional at launch and the battle systems being undercooked, and it never really recovered. When you make a new sequel with new systems (not just a title update of an existing game), you're almost always going to get complaints from legacy players. tbqh, I don't think the existing aacc fanbase was big enough to have a major impact on the game's success, especially considering how many complaints are from ryougi beggars who have most likely never heard of cccaster.

As far as the system goes, I honestly think people place way too much importance on gameplay when it comes to a fighting game's success. As long as the systems aren't completely broken (which I'm pretty confident in, given how fpan has been steadily improving the game) and the game actually functions at launch (which I'm a bit less confident in), other factors like marketing, qol improvements, and, perhaps most importantly, the price tag are gonna have a much larger influence on how the game performs. As far as gameplay does matter, I think melty has a pretty solid niche carved out among modern fighters, which is something I think cotw dropped the ball on. It's also very fun, which will hopefully help.

Like the other anon said, they could try giving characters more impactful traits. There's also a lot of mechanics they could lift/adapt from aacc, which could inform how mbtl's existing mechanics get changed. It seems pretty unlikely to me, but there's also always the chance they bring back moon variants and overhaul the MD system drastically. I honestly feel so happy to be alive and playing UNI2 and Melty. I drove an hour and a half to my first local, and after an entire 2 months of trying to meet people in my new county, I finally made some friends, even met a girl. Melty is the most beginner friendly and fun. They're all good though, and if you are in a position to consider picking up uni2, I'd say get bbcf and mbtl for the same price. They also come with the entire cast, while uni2 has an additional season pass/deluxe edition if you're interested in any of the dlc characters.

As far as communities go, you can always ask questions here, but you're probably gonna want to join some discords, if only to have more options to find matches (especially with other beginner/intermediate players).

uni2 is more grounded by virtue of most characters not having access to a double jump (there is a universal mechanic called assault which is kinda like a pseudo short hop/air dash). Understanding the GRD system also has a bit of a learning curve, as far as mental stack is concerned. Also, Yuzu is a pretty technical character iirc.

mbtl is probably the least technically demanding due to having auto-combos and moon skills (which don't require motion inputs). You can also set your auto-combo preferences in the character select screen, so you don't have to worry too hard about accidentally getting it due to sloppy inputs (note that turning auto-combo off completely is generally not recommended).

I will say that, generally speaking, I wouldn't worry too hard about execution requirements in these types of games. Regardless of what you start with, you're probably gonna want to have a relatively simple bnb that you can get from most of your starters, and part of what makes this subgenre so fun is that gatlings/rebeats make coming up with a combo that mostly works on the fly a lot easier. You're probably not going to be doing anything optimal at first, and slowly evolving and optimizing your combos (and successfully landing them in game) is part of the joy of getting better at these games.

All three games have a few regular weekly/biweekly online brackets, with at least one of them being targeted at beginner/intermediate players. My own biases aside, I hope you have fun with whichever one(s) you end up going with.

Yuzu's playstyle relies a lot on her stance mechanic, meaning you're going to continuously hold a button while doing other shit. Contrary to the notation, it's not necessary to do the holds for a lot of combos anymore, but you'll still need to do holds for pressure. They should have dedicated beginner channels, although be warned that ymmv as to what anybody thinks beginner means. I'll break my own rule a bit to highlight Training Mode Network which is a general beginner/intermediate server that all three games are pretty active in and also runs biweekly brackets.

Classic Akiha/Vakiha were very close to each other in movesets and mostly varied by their airdash and some move properties. AA/CC expanded the differences but when you look at MBAC their special moves were very nearly identical. It is basically 1 moveset assigned to two different characters. They can add Vakiha will ribbon/pillar/pit/momiji and that covers both VAkiha and classic akiha's movesets.
I see no reason to redesign her since it is a classic moveset. PCiel's moveset only existed in current code and was a mess. Of the CC characters, they all got different treatments: Roa got all his moons mixed together in varying amounts, Seifuku is just fmoon but with her specials MASSIVELY buffed in nearly every possible way(except 22x), and Pciel got almost entirely scrapped aside from lightning, DP, and a few random animations they recreated to use in different spots. All three of those characters were balancing problems in CC so this was kamone's chance to give them more than 3 days of dev time. I don't see why VAkiha would need a remake like PCiel - if anything, she'd get warc treatment with visual overhauls to make her stand out visually.
My theory has always been that VAkiha will get the classic look and moveset and there is no classic tohno akiha.
