This update is going to make a thrumbo ranch more useful without mods unless I am misunderstanding the stuff about thrumbo roar.
In a previous colony, my thrumbos were pretty useless when the raids become harder due to the sheer number of raiders and bullets.
I doubt they would be useful against mechs anyways due to how fire works.

Biggest problem with the game is farming, farming is too easy, too shallow, it has no depth. If Tynan wasn't a hack he'd rework farming into something meaningful instead of a thing that shits out resources like crazy.

1.6 doesn't load custom scenarios if they have defs that aren't loaded anymore. Clicking them gives you an option to load the modlist it was saved with.

It's a completely different story when I provoke manhunter animals near enemies, especially on my usual raiding trips to get mats like 2k steel, wood, silver or 50 components quickly (15 to 20 defenders can be easily defeated by shooting the nearby animals and or using berserker pulse when they are bunched together).

It's a skillset made to fight against infestations, bad at raiding, good at defending against raiders, even against breachers and sappers (just have them wait near the wall they will break).
The only defense battle they suck at is against mass shambler assault that destroys anything in their path, but they die in 6 to 10 hours so is just hiding in a mountain and hoping the shamblers don't destroy too much and leave at least 1 male and 1 female of your ranch alive.
They also kinda suck against sieges since they are slow and they have to leave the shadows, but you should have your own mortars to counter their mortars.
Finally, all those weakness are fixed if you do a mountain play. Dirtmoles are kinda overpowered in mountains.
I don't see anything in the patch notes about proximity heat. Does that mean the lava biome will have the same outdoor temperature regardless of proximity to lava?

This appears to be random map quest, which is interesting because there are a fuckton of enemies. I'm used to seeing 5-6 enemy pawn ambushes max and I typically play on higher threat scales. Lots of loot, too.

I'm assuming this is the "AncientToxVent". Looks like you enter through a hole similar to the pit gate. Maybe there's a quest where you have to disable it, similar to the tox spewer. Also potentially a good place to farm insect queens if that's a thing.

I wish trading and caravanning had more depth. I would love to set out with a couple pawns exploring the world, buying salted meats cheap during summer to sell them at winter for profit. Having events along the way more than just being ambushed. Finding warring nations and selling them overpriced weapons and armour. Growing the caravan until we have enough to make a small merchant village along a trading route and having daily visitors to peruse our wares.

I am going to play the FUCK out of this new DLC if they actually manage to deliver on the premise, this is easily the expansion i've gotten the most excited for. I can already imagine so many different types of colonies to make once Odyssey drops, more than all the other dlcs besides Ideology, except Odyssey's new feature are way more gameplay altering than Ideology.

to start building the gravship, you'll need to research "basic gravtech" after which you can get a quest to loot one from a wreckage.
after building the ship, you'll periodically get sub-quests to obtain gravcores from various points of interest.

I really don't care about Tynan and am making my own RimWorld clone that does lean into heavy RP elements. However, it is undeniable that RimWorld is meticulously crafted in respect to providing an engaging experience from a pure gameplay perspective.
Every weapon, every fur type, every material has a purpose. Quite literally 0 bloat, before DLCs, of course.
People who complain about vanilla RimWorld switched to cope mods before trying to get good, hence why every modfag whines by citing beginner problems that would get you jester awards on Steam forums.
Moreover, I think that DLCs are a step back, since they try to half-assedly appease RP-fags instead of playing into RimWorld's strength; a perfected core gameplay loop.
Stuff like "ideologies", "children" and "space ships", are deviations from what makes RW perfect. The game needs no DLC just as much as it does not need any mods.
I seriously recommend sitting down and playing the vanilla game the way it was intended.
Choose a higher difficulty than you're used to and aim for a highscore for subsequent runs, e.g. starting the ship as soon as possible.
