The Mega Drive never really took off in Japan and the people who did buy it were more interested in arcade games. The Saturn did okay in Japan but Sonic was absent. His popularity picked up in the Dreamcast years because of the Adventure games but as we know, it was mostly downhill from there.

It's not that Sonic is unpopular in Japan, it's just that he never achieved Mario type status.

I watched a few videos on Mario Kart World and I noticed that a consistent complaint is that the game is too chaotic and random and only the last lap matters because everyone is spamming items and it just sounds like the game is basically what the beta of Crossworlds was. Players are upset that the game feels less skill based and more luck of the draw on items. The beta may have saved Crossworlds from suffering the same fate.

Shadow wears "Air Shoes". But, his upgrade in SA2 for the Light Dash are the ... Air Shoes.

Therefor, Sonic's own default shoe must also be "Light Speed Shoes", and his upgrade in SA1/2 is simply another variation of it.

But the coolest thing about the Light Dash in SA1 is how it's basically an upgrade to the Spin Dash where Sonic is absorbing ambient light energy from all around him, until he's glowing with light. Like, it's like he absorbs light to BECOME light, a pure energy being. Infinite energy is required to move at light speed, so Sonic simply charges up until he has infinite energy, and blasts off at light speed.

This is taken a step further with the final upgrade being the Ancient Light, itself. Sonic's ability to move at light speed is drawn from the power to harness "Light" itself, and that's the coolest thing ever.

That's because in the comic's own universe most of the issues for the comic straight up did not happen. Remember how the Chao Race arc was supposed to be an introduction and setup for Surge and Kit and not even a year later the whole are was made completely null and moot because Ian decided last minute to make them androids instead? Remember how the forest fire arc literally meant absolutely fucking nothing? Most of the arcs and issues in the IDW comic do not even have the prerequisites of being filler content. The comic's universe itself literally ignore a good quarter of the issues made for it because they were retroactively retconned. There's maybe about 5 arcs in the entire comic's life span that actually have any relevance to the plot and it's characters. The rest is either filler bullshit or even less than that and just waste your time reading through.

It genuinely makes me question how even fans of the comic OCs like Ian or Evan. Neither of these writers seem to care enough about the OCs to give them proper development or story and in the case of Whisper they actively degrade the character by constantly resetting her personality. Literally every other fanbase that has interacted with these two have mocked them and told them to fuck off. The Sonic fandom is the only one that tolerates and likes them and I have no idea why.
