Concepts such as Aeons and Paths are not exclusive to HSR. They exist all over the Honkai Universe, so it's normal to see them in other Honkai titles

I apologize for shitting up your thread but the denizens of your sister games are totally worthless and this is, I conceive, acceptably relevant to your game more than any other. As far as honkai cosmology goes, there are an infinite number of technically completely distinct universes that are saturated with imaginary energy that makes everything possible. This energy exists within and between every universe though technically every universe is distinct and there is no overlap. The CoF is a device/entity that is basically the physical embodiment of fate for all life in every universe and the closest thing to a god in the strictest sense of the word that desires the subsuming of all life everywhere into itself.

My questions: how does the cacoon of finality work? am i to understand that there is only one and it manually travels between universes searching for life to subsume? is there only 1 kiana that goes through the entire process of HotV -> HoF or are universes in honkai more timelines/variations of one universe than teleologically/causally distinct universes?

There are possibly an infinite amount of Kianas in the universe with very different lives in the imaginary tree worlds and sea of quanta worlds. From what we know, only 1 CoF exists. Kiana isn't a requirement for CoF, it tested the other planets in hi3s solar system before coming to earth.
The bubble universes/worlds in the soq are either entirely artificially made or are copies of real worlds on the imaginary tree that diverge from those real worlds starting with their existence

CoF isn't a malevolent entity and it doesn't "subsume" life for sustainance or anything. It's a vastly alien entity that's so far disconnected to normal life that it's attempt to make contact simply destroyed the worlds it touched. Kiana (and Kebin) simply were the first life it was able to successfully make a connection with, which was it's goal. It's now a cute snake.

The devs really didn't state as much in the game. CoF was just happy with Kiana (or rather, it was happier with Kiana than with Kevin, who stole its authority), had a talk with her (we didn't see what it said, it just made whale noises) and gave her access to its authority. CoF could rescind the authority of Finality if it wanted to.

I don't know, Shaoji and Fanchuan have always had a penchant for fucking up the endings of stories so I don't have that much faith in them. Penacony was a mystery with big focus on plottwists and cliffhangers. This is, just how it's called, a hero's journey and there's not much mystery, at least not yet. I honestly can't explain it more than a gut feeling, but the way it's been done so far just leads me to believe that 3.3/3.4 will be the "Darkest Hour" but we'll turn it around and have a happy ending, bar maybe one or two sacrifices. To me the tone of the setting and characters just doesn't have the same feeling as the ER did, ER from the start was clearly a tragedy, where as the set up for Amephoreus feels like there a light at the end of the tunnel. I think the best way to point this out is that the plot of Amephoreus is still to early on for this to be nearing the end like the ER had with all it's deaths, Amephoreus is still around halfway if I had to guess, which means there is the time for the turn around. We are currently in Empire Strikes Back with Return of the Jedi on the horizon if that makes sense.
