It's been a long while since I read about the storytellers, but I think the "credits" (points) accumulate the longer you go between raids, so if you get three raids close to each other, the first will be bigger while the others will be a little smaller as he didn't have enough points to pay for it, getting only points from wealth, pawns and such.
Which is the explanation why Phoebe kicks hard you when you least expect, she has the most points accumulated because her time between events is larger.

You should already have 2 sources of recreation: Solitary Recreation and if you had built a table with chairs, Social Recreation. Recreation shouldn't drop that quickly if fulfilled even a tiny bit and for starting colonies, it's offset by Low Expectations exactly for that reason. The only thing I can think of as to why your colonists are all at -20 mood for 0 recreation is if you had set all your pawn's schedule to only Work and Sleep, or maybe even only Work until they literally pass out from exhaustion in a haste to build all that stuff rapidly, and as a result not only are they suffering from the massive no recreation mood debuff, but also lack of sleep and hunger debuffs (and possibly le Ate Without Table and Slept on Ground if you refused to build at least a table and some beds in your rush for electricity and stone walls).

Rather than forced hours of recreation, I tend to just schedule the 'day shift' as follows:
12am - 6am: Sleep
6am - 8am: Anything (or additional Sleep hours, or Meditation/Recreation as necessary on a pawn by pawn basis)
8am - 6pm: 10-hour work shift
6pm to 12am (midnight): Anything

Main reason why I use Anything instead of Recreation most of the time is that setting Recreation specifically can cause pawns to hit 100 Recreation, run off to do a job somewhere, then if it's still in Recreation time, run back for some more Recreation if it dropped to like 98 while they were out. Leaving enough hours of Anything also lets them organise parties and such 'after work' as well. There can be occasions where a pawn might not get enough recreation each day because they sleep until work time (8am) and then when work finishes (6pm) they eat and then just go straight to sleep, but I can just let them sleep a tiny bit before draft/undrafting them to make them do something else than sleep (which would often be Recreation during Anything time). By the time this could even be a problem in more mature colonies, I'd already have access to better recreation multiplier stuff and better Rest modifier beds (whether it's Excellent/Master quality, use of Sleep Accelerators and/or modded beds). It actually gets to the point where in the 6 hour sleep schedule, my pawns end up waking up within 4 hours because the Rest Multiplier is just that high.
